Is it at all possible to get pregnant while having early menopause/perimenopause ? Fed up and desperate!!!

So fed up. Been trying to conceive for almost a year and a half, i'm 38. Blood hormone levels have been abnormal on a few occasions for the past year and i'm having lots of meno symptoms. Under an infertility clinic, NHS, can't afford to go private. The consultant is hoping to start me on Clomid to help boost ovulation at the start of my next cycle, as long as my FSH level is under 15. Iv'e heard of quite a few women getting pregnant who are around my age while on this drug. As i'm on 'the change', how likely is it that i will conceive with fertility drugs. Can anyone share experiences or success stories to give me a bit of hope please. Getting desperate, so want a baby. Just want to try and beat my biological clock this one last time.

My mum did with my youngest brother. Her menopause had started then restarted after the birth of my db.

Well, I did. I got pg at 41 after having FSH readings of 27 and 33. It took me several years and I had several miscarriages but I did not give up. I spent hours and hours researching and I discovered a clinic in the USA run by a Dr Check who treats women like us with a particular type of HRT.

I used this HRT, in conjunction with my GP, and got pg several times. Finally I had my baby - he is 8!

I did try Clomid but it did not work for me (fsh too high I think). It just brought on hot sweats and my cycle disappeared for a few months. Clomid can drive the ovaries too hard in high fsh women and mine just 'shut up shop'.

I really wish you well and the advice that I would give is never give up, if you really want your own baby, you just never know when it could happen. I also met another lady on a board like this and she had fsh over 40 and she had a baby too. What we both did was monitor our cycles too. I used a fertility monitor and read 'Taking control of your fertility' by Tony Weschler.

Under 40, I should think you chances are OK if you are still menstruating.

It takes 2 years of complete amenhorrhea if you are under 50 before you can abandon contraception, and you've many years before that. What might be called a menopausal symptom in some, is a hormone fluctuation in someone of a younger age range, and as your consultant hasn't given up on you, don't give up on yourself.
