I am now officially menopausal as I've gone 12 months without a period. In the last month or two I've started feeling like an old woman - stiff, aching joints, back pain, creaky knees and aching shins. Anyone else feel like this, and found a remedy? I'm 53.

get your vit d tested

sore shins sounds like low vit d

Sadly it's down to loss of collagen between the joints and this is due to the decline in oestrogen. I had a friend who was affected quite badly. The only real answer is HRT, but if you don't want that then maybe try all the usual things for joints- cod liver oil, etc and keep moving- lack of exercise will make it worse.

I've had that for the past year, and I am having periods every three weeks too!

I have not had much of a sympathetic response about HRT as no flushes. I may try again with a more knowledgeable doctor after Christmas (if I can find one).

I had bad joint pain during perimenopause which has been greatly alleviated by taking HRT (Elleste Duet 1mg) Worked pretty much straight away...not worked for the insomnia though grrr
