I am 39 and since I had my gallbladder out I have been thrown into perimenapause.
I now realise I had the symptoms mildly before but now they are quite extreme.
I feel quite alone and it's hard to get my head around the symptoms.
Crawling skin
Shorter lighter periods
Tingling extremities
Internal tremor
Head aches
First migraine
Sore muscles
Anxiety
Night sweat before my period
Emotional
Hair loss
Slightly swolen hands
I am having acupuncture which helps, taking supplements, eatting a good diet, I don't drink and am not over weight (yet!) and don't smoke.
I did not expect this all so soon. I feel alone. Please share your symptoms and any advice you might have.

This thread has gone quiet in the last month, but would definitely be worth a look.

I'm 38 and believe i began perimenopause around age 35. I have irregular periods that are shorter and lighter than before. Mood swings with sudden anger and tears. Anxiety, heart palpitations, mild depression. Hair loss, also it's more brittle and dry. Vaginal dryness and night sweats a few days before my period. Also infertility, been trying to conceive for 16 months with no success. I don't smoke, never have. I don't drink and eat a pretty healthy diet, (lots of chocolate though!). What you need to do is ask your doctor for acycle day 3 FSH test. You have blood taken on day 3 of your period which measures your FSH level. If it's high then you are most likely in perimeno or early menopause. I had mine done a year ago when i was 37 and it came back at 20 which the doctor said was a borderline menopausal level and advised me to start HRT! Hrt at 37, that does sound ridiculous! I haven't taken it as yet as i am still trying to have a baby. It's very sad that afew of us ladies seem to be starting menopause under age 40. I always thought it was something that happened age 45 plus xx

Apart from heavy/very frequent periods and forgetfulness/brain fog, I have struggled with an unsettling feeling of being "not myself" somehow. Very odd.

Meglet · 01/12/2013 11:58

I have loads of symptoms but the GP said my blood test was fine Sad. So I don't know what's going on. I'm really struggling with memory and mood swings. And headaches, I'm generally healthy but feel ill and achy most days.

fidelma · 01/12/2013 20:24

Gp also thought I was fine as blood test didn't indicate perimenapause but she didn't take it at the right time. A gynecologist friend went through my symptoms and said deffinetly perimenapause!
Thanks for sharing. I often seem to have a hard day on about day 7 of my cycle. Has anyone noticed a pattern to their symptoms?
Anyone else get skin crawling?
Thanks for sharing. It helps.

I haven't had skin crawling but my skin does feel itchy now and again. Theredoesn't seem to be a pattern to my symptoms, everything seems totally random.

steeking · 01/12/2013 20:37

Bloods ok here but periods every3 weeks often with flooding, PMT worse (some days just need to disengage from life for half an hour and have a lie down), REALLY hot at night with period, forgetful and thinning hair.

Meglet · 02/12/2013 10:30

My skin is itchy these days, to the point where I swear there's a bug crawling on it but when I look there's nothing there Confused. It drives me mad. Must be another symptom.

erilou38 · 02/12/2013 10:55

Iv'e just posted a thread about setting up a support group for us ladies under 40 who are going through a premature menopause. Thought it might be helpful to share what we are going through and support each other.

I told my doctor in my mid 40s that I thought I was pre-menopausal and she said I was too young - from what I understand it can go on for 10 years though so surely in that case I would be right on track.

Regular as clockwork periods have become intermittent - last space between was 3 months
Definately puffy hands
I have the tingling too - I didnt know that could be a symptom (relief)
Hair is definately thinner
Sometimes I feel like I just want to be left alone - very distant from everyone.
Occasionally I look at H (who most the time I love) and think "I could divorce you" (generally fine again within few hours)
Im very forgetful - pin numbers and passwords disappear, sometimes I abandon the car on the drive because ive forgotten temporarily how to park it Blush I have lots of "what the f*ck was I thinking" moments

Oh and I dont appreciate a handsome man in the way I used to - now its more like the way I would admire a painting or a object rather than a "ooooooohhhhhhh"

Its all pretty crap....so yes could use some support!

fidelma · 10/12/2013 07:38

Internal trembling. Not nice but another symptom. It's hard.

Mine are:
Generally more anxious and less able to cope with stress
some hot flushes
Waking more frequently at night
Occasional insomnia
Frequently too hot at night
Increasingly long gaps with no periods
Periods a little heavier
Slight dryness of the delicate parts
I had alot of skin tingling going on a few years ago, mostly under my chin, never occurred to me that it was menopause related!
(I'm 47)
