Very short period, perimenopause perhaps ?

I'm 38 and for the past 2 years have been having irregular periods. I am still ovulating but my current cycle was 38 days. My cycles vary anywhere between 35 and 42 days with the odd 'normal' 28 day cycle thrown in now and then. As well as the irregularity my periods have also become shorter and lighter. My period started early yesterday morning, fairly painless, passed a few clots, then by teatime the bleeding had slowed. Barely nothing in the night and then nothing more than spotting today. I never need to use more than a panty liner, or at the most asmall sanitary towel. I always used to have regular periods that lasted 5 days. Been trying to get pregnant for over a year so these short, light periods are obviously hindering me. I always thought that heavy periods were associated with menopause with gaps of 3 or 4 months in between. My friend was mid to late 40s when her periods started to be irregular and heavier, she is now 50 and hasn't had a period in a year. Could my periods be a sign of menopause ?

The menopause can muck up your cycle in all sorts of ways - shorter, longer, heavier, lighter.

As you've been TTC for a year, perhaps now is the time to book a doctor's appt to discuss your cycle and fertility.

I'm under an infertility clinic and about to start Clomid in December to try and regulate my cycles and hopefully make me produce more eggs. I obviously must have a few eggs left in my ovaries, just need to find a good one! Not holding out much hope though of getting pregnant if this really is menopause.

I wouldn't have minded if all this had started when i was over age 40 like most women. At least then i would have had acouple more years in which to have a baby and complete my family. I hope i'm one of those few lucky women who manages to get pregnant while in perimenopause. God, what a bitch life can be!
