Excessively greasy hair - menopause?

I've started to get really greasy hair around the crown. It's greasy as I blow dry it immediately after washing it, and my usual shampoos (pantene / head & shoulders) don't touch it. I've tried other shampoos but with no success. It comes on roughly at the same time as my period, then goes away. I look awful!
Having highlights in my hair helps .... but I'm not doing it a lot of good with the chemicals and as the highlights grow out the grease takes hold again....aaaagh!
I'm 49, is this the menopause? It started happening about a year ago.
Any suggestions welcome.

Im a little younger OP, clinging on to mid40s and find I need to wash my hair most days now.
Never had greasy hair before and my DH says it looks fine but I feel it 'dirty', dometimes I get away with just doing my fringe to freshen it up.
Din't know if dry shampoo would help, have you tried it?

Yes it's hormonal which is why some women in their 40s suddenly get acne again. But it's slightly odd that it's so greasy the minute you have washed it. Are you washing twice and rinsing like mad- and not overloading with products? Might be a good question for the Style and Beauty forum here :)
