Is this it? Periods used to be 28 days with a predictable cycle. I used to temp when ttc so tuned into my cycles. Now it seems like it is speeding up!

Am 50 so guessing this is the start but thought they would lessen not increase. No other real symptoms except bad pmt.

Anyone else speed up? Is it normal?

Yes it is normal. I had 17 day cycles at one stage for 2-3 months, then they reverted back to 4-weekly ones.

Your periods can come closer together or further apart- both are 'normal'.

Yes, it can be either shorter or longer - my cycle can be anything from 2-5 weeks at the moment.

If you don't really have any other symptoms, then it'll be menopausal changes. But don't let age and likelihood of weird cycle put you off seeing you GP if you are concerned (for in general any major shift in menstrual cycle might merit investigation) or if there are other symptoms, such as bloating, backache or bleeding after intercourse.
