Is 38 too young for perimenopause ???

I'm 38 and believe i started 'the change' at about 35. The symptoms have really cranked up for the past year now. For about 18 months my periods have been irregular, they are lighter and only last a day or 2. I get hot in bed sometimes at night, getting dryness 'down below', palpitations, anxiety, mood swings. I feel really down and fed up almost every day, like i have permanent PMS. Also, iv'e been trying for a baby now for 14 months with no luck. I'm with an infertility clinic, where 2 months ago they discovered i had a few ovarian cysts. The nurse didn't think i'm in perimenopause as my FSH level wasn't high. 5.2 i think it was. when i had my hormone levels checked last year at the doctors my FSH was 20. The doctor told me that this was a borderline menopausal level. I so do not want to be in early menopause as i want another child so bably but i have this awful feeling that this is the end for me, my fertile years are gone. Is there anyone else under 40 that thinks they are in early menopause ?

Not under 40 now (I wish), but I had menopause after first child. Mid thirties.

I'm 43, barely had a period after turning 38 and have been on HRT for the last couple of years. Looking back now I can see I was in perimenopause in my early thirties but the only symptom was changing cycle lengths and slightly less bleeding so I didn't recognise it.

Sorry to hear you feel that time is running out and your family isn't complete. Don't lose hope just yet though - ask the clinic about all the options.

And if it doesn't happen as impossible as it sounds you will adjust - I didn't manage to have any children but I focus on all the good things in my life and have now reconciled myself to the life that I have. Fingers crossed you will get your wish!

I first went to docs suspecting perimenopause at 29. It may or may not have been happening then. Nothing showed on the blood test. Symptoms just got worse and I was confirmed as in menopause age 36. I had another blood test age 38 and I was in the post-menopausal range.

So sorry it's happening to you. I also wanted another child and it didn't happen. It's a massive blow.
