I am in my mid forties and have premature menopause and to cut a long story short have to go on the stupid HRT again. I went on a much stronger one a few years ago and had severe bloating and I looked huge! Although I dont feel any different at the moment, I know I will feel better when I start my tablets tomorrow (sorry if I am not making much sense), Any way I wondered if any of you lovely ladies is taking Climogest 1 mg and whether you have had weight gain with it...I am considering DE this Summer but thats another story, Thanks ladies

sparklingportrait Sorry to hear you feel HRT is stupid but I can understand why you feel like that if you put on weight. I have no experience of Climagest but hopefully it will make you feel better. It is important to replace oestrogen at least until the average age of meno of 51/52 because this is what your body would have had normally and it protects your bones amongst other things.

There is some information about weight gain and menopause on the Menopause Matters website - it seems that some find it does, some the opposite - so it;s an individual thing - but we all tend to put weight on as we approach middle age (aarrgh)

Maybe the kind you had before just didn't suit you?
It's worth trying to get the right 'fit'.

Interesting, there is no real scientific evidence of weight gain on HRT, whilst women say they sometimes do put weight on with it.

There are several theories behind this- some women feel much better on HRT and perhaps eat more than they did before, especially if HRT means they go out more, have more active social lives ( coffee and cakes etc!), or it could very easily just be coincidence that at the age we take HRT our metabolisms slow down anyway and we'd be putting on the weight without HRT.

If it's bloating that's the issue this is usually down to to type of, or too much progesterone in the cycle.

Thank you so much for your replies ladies. I probably should've explained myself a little better, I meant bloating more than weight gain, though the scales said weight! My ankles swelled and tummy etc when I was on HRT before, hence calling it stupid! I will proceed with this month and monitor my bloating and then go back to the GP. Thanks again

Often it is the progestogen which can cause the bloating so maybe if this is a different type from the one you had before, then you may not experience this. Hope it does the trick this time!

Hi I am on climagest too I feel bloated but am not sure whether it is due to the tabs, was going to ask dr at next appt. I am sure that it is a side effect.
