Endometrial ablation, does it work if bleeding

My appnt for ablation (for nightmare periods) has come and there's a good chance I'm going to be on a period that day. Will they still do it? Will the ablation be as effective? The info that came with the letter doesn't mention it, nor was anything mentioned at pre-op. I told the consultant that I was bleeding more days than I wasn't, so he knows the problems I'm having. Do any of you 'naice' ladies have any insight on this please?

Watching with interest ,just got my appt through think I'm gonna be the same Also would like to know what the recovery time is like work in retail on feet all day, I'm anticipating a week will be long enough off can't wait for it now.

A week! Yikes, I was hoping two days off, including op day itself would be enough! I too have a physically hard job. Lets hope wise laadies come along soon!

Bit of a fraud as not had this done but had other gynae ops and investigations.

If you have a general anaes. then you should not be back at work in 2 days unless it is an incredibly light GA- you need to ask your dr and I'd be shocked if you were not given a leaflet about after-op care. You certainly cannot drive for 24-48 hrs after a GA.

If you have any surgery your body needs to heal so there is no way IMO you should go back to work the day after the op. BUT you will be advised by the dr.

Periods should not matter- there will be blood etc anyway so a bit more won't bother them though I expect they will not allow you to use tampons as is the rule after any surgery like that for a while.

BUT just call the hospital and ask to talk to admissions nurse or whoever and they will answer all of this.

I had it done in October - just tell the nurse you are bleeding and she gave me a towel to wear with my disposable pants under my gown when they got me ready for theatre. I was kept in overnight as my blood pressure and oxygen were very low after the general. I took a week off work which was about right for me.. Hope that helps - good luck.
