I am 48, definitely in the peri-menopause phase and have been for several years, but every so often I get a new symptom that throws me. So, if you have been through, or are going through the peri-menopause, do you recognise this? (and sorry for the minute detail, but I need to explain!)
I haven't had a period for 3 months (fairly normal so far). Then on Thursday, I had vague stomach ache - the sort I used to get before a period in my young days before kids. Not usual nowadays, but not unheard of. I thought a period must be imminent.
Yesterday, sure enough, I go to the loo on waking, and there is a small amount of red blood on the paper. Not enough to need protection straight away. I have breakfast, go to loo again, more blood, put in tampon. About 3 hours later, I go to loo again, take out tampon, and there is only the slightest stain on it. I can't wear tampons unless the flow is reasonably great, so I used a towel instead. And the whole of the rest of the day, there was no more blood, not on the towel, and not on the paper when I wiped.
This morning: slight amount of pinky discharge on paper, no proper blood. No blood for the whole of today (am wearing a panty liner and it is totally unmarked.)
So what has happened to the period? Is that it? I have heard of people having one day periods, but this was little more than about 3 hours! I would estimate a total of about 1/4 tsp of blood.
Please, does anyone recognise this? is it normal for periods to diminish down to just a few hours of bleeding? I have read that periods can get lighter just before the menopause, but this is ridiculous!
