Taking HRT Always read the information leaflet that comes with your medication

well, I have been to the doctors this morning and I would like to say that some of the information given by some members is incorrect. Statisticly, there are a number of side effects with taking hrt, as with all drugs, there is a slight increased risk of breast cancer, but I urge all new women that are prescribed hrt to read the information leaflet that comes with the medication. It could be that you are one of the very few that get side effects, etc, but in my experience I have not had a bad experience of taking hrt, it has improved my life. It is advised however that women who have had their ovaries removed, should take hrt to reduce the risk of osteoporosis in later lives. Hope this helps and good luck

Could you say exactly what you feel has been incorrect here?
Remember that there are different types of HRT . Some of the leaflets in the packs etc are not absolutely up to date- they should have a date on when they were written. A lot of the stats have been revised over the past few months.

You don't need HRT if your ovaries have been removed if you are over the age of the average meno- only if removed before.

Many women would benefit from taking HRT long term ie well beyond the avergae age of meno (as I am and as I do) to reduce the risk of osteoporosis in later life - ovaries removed or not.

Personally I don't want to take the risk of osteoporosis and other long term health conditions (physical and mental) caused or exacerbated by long term oestrogen deficiency.

Need? In my view, I need HRT and I am 59. Many would agree.
