Been feeling the change of life for about 6 months. Crabby, slight night sweats during my period and then I noticed my periods were changing - all over the place and even a different colour! Anyway, turned 50, 2 months ago and have not had a period since. I can't get over how much my waste is expanding and my tummy visibly getting bigger and so fast. Feel slightly puffy all over Is this a regular sign of menopause. I have not changed anything, still living the same!

Sounds about right to me, am 49 next month and definitely heading the same way. I guess ones metabolism slows down a bit, hence the weight gain?

BTW if noone else posts here, lots of previous Meno threads on MN (in search) with useful lists of symptoms, links and MNers thoughts on the subject Smile

Weight gain is common because your metabolism changes. basically, what you could eat ( and work off) when younger goes out the window! You have to have a big re-assess and often cut back on calories quite a lot, or do loads of exercise to compensate.

It's supposed to settle down when you are post meno- in a few years- but meantime you need to really cut back and reduce your intake of carbs, bad fats and maybe alcohol?

Lol. Started the thread too soon. After 2.5 months started a period today and tummy and boobs have deflated! Looks like we just have to go with the flow, if you pardon the pun. Can't wait to see what happens next. wonder if the night heat will come back this week?

Great to hear you have deflated! Long live periods - that's what I say....
When they are truly gone or on the way out the low oestrogen levels can allow the meno symptoms to develop with a vengeance ie flushes and sweats - although some women seem to start the symptoms while still having fairly regular periods.
Hope you keep symptom free for a while yet!

Ooo congratulations.. Looks like the new wardrobe may have to wait Grin

Tis all one helluva mother nature wind up, up to 10 years of erratic bodily behaviour was a big oversight on her behalf, i reckon!
