Menopause and serenity cream

I have been having hot flushes for 9 years now and have been on and off hrt of all types, pills, patches and gel for short periods. I have also been prescribed venlafaxine and clonidine all of which worked for very short periods. Now I am having the worst flushes ever and am at my wits end. I saw Serenity and am thinking of buying it, but there are mixed reviews on this forum. Anybody out there got any other suggestions?

What exactly has gone on with all the HRT etc that you have already tried?

Theoretically you are supposed to give all HRT 3 months to see if it helps.

Each different type has differet strengths. What have you tried and what has it done ot not done?

Hi everyone im new here and would like to talk to anyone who is going through that crazy perimenopause stage. Im 44 and havent had a period for 4 months. Im wondering if this is the start of peri stage. I have been under a lot of stress the past 8 months or so but this phase has been going on since last october. I dont seem to have a period every month anymore. Has anyone started using the serenity cream? I have had quite good results with warm flushes but as of now i still have not had my period. Im definately not pregnant as my hubbie had the snip 14 years ago.

Call me cynical but I did begin to wonder if the OP here was working for the company and trying to give the product some advertising- she hasn't been back since she posted, or asnwered my questions.

There is no convincing evidence that progesterone cream has a proven effect in reudcing hot flushes other than the placebo effect ( ie if you think they will reduce then sometimes they do). However oestrogen through HRT is pretty well guaranteed to work because the flushes are due to decreasing oestrogen. Post-menopausal women have virtually no progesterone of their own. Those who take HRT who have had a hysterectomy normally take no progesterone but still usually get good relief from symptoms.

My name is Angie I'm 52, I have started experiencing hot flushes, night sweats, mood swings the list goes on. I have been doing my own research on HRT to see what is the right road to travel. what I have learnt so far HRT is a synthetic hormone, your body doesn't readily accept it, which in turn comes along with many side affects. What concerns me is if one prescribed medicine doesn't work your doctor can give you another, until your on a cocktail of drugs and you can end up feeling much worse. Natural Progesterone appears to alleviate many Menopause systems without the nasty side affects. What has sparked my concern is, doctors in Australia are not educated on natural progesterone and how it can help elevate symptoms. So they push HRT because of the pharmaceutical companies, basically that's were the money is maximum profit for all those concerned. They don't want to know if they cant make money on it.
I think do your research, be educated and informed, its your body.
There are answers out there one just has to look, don't believe everything your told because someone is a doctor, they may not know themselves.
In my past I have traveled down this road before, not happy with conventional medicine, being on mind altering drugs. I found alternative ways to treat health problems. Food, diet, exercise and meditation is a great start. Modern medicine definitely has its place but it can also do harm if your not informed on whats right for your body.
People actively are trying to get Progesterone creams sold over the counter in Australia because of its benefits, if it can help reduce breast cancer in women why are we all not taking it, along side the benefits of reducing many wide ranging symptoms.
Governments of this world have allot to answer for.

You need to do some more research Angie!
Many oestrogens are bio-identical which means they are exactly the same as oestrogen we produce naturally.

I don't think it is accurate to say that the people who sell Serenity are not interested in making a profit.

Can you say where there is the evidence that progesterone can reduce breast cancer? This is a very dangerous thing to write unless you can link to papers on it. The fact is that women who can take oestrogen only HRT do in fact have a reduced risk of breast cancer.

i've started having a bit of hassle with various symptoms but I'm not going to waste any of my time looking into Serenity as I noticed a thread on herewith lots of first time posters joining just to extol its virtues. Maybe it's because it's so wonderful people join up to share the good news but I'll need convincing on that as it smacks of a lazy marketing department.

Why do we keep seeing single posts from new posters about the magnet and Serenity?

I found this site today as I was looking for any help I can get for my menopausal symptoms, they are driving me mad! I started using Serenity Cream in Feb 2011. I had used it for a month or 2 and I can honestly say it was the best thing I did! most of the problems I had eg. hot flushes, sweats, panic attacks were my main problems.Each of these symptoms disappeared ! I lost 2 stone in weight due to diet and exercise too, I had more energy and was told by friends & family I looked 10 years younger and I felt better than I had in years.However September 2011 I found a lump in my breast and after biopsy etc it was positive also it had spread to lymph nodes. I had a lumpectomy and 23 nodes removed 21 were infected, I had 6 months Chemo and 4 weeks of Radiotherapy, then I had 12 months of Herceptin which I have finished the end of April this year! I was 49 when I was diagnosed and turned 51 in May this year, I was peri -menopausal when I started using Serenity but the Chemo pushed me into full menopause.My breast cancer was not hormonal it was Her2 positive, ER negative & PR negative. Consequently my Encologist will not let me use HRT or anything similar. I may be being naive but as far as I'm concerned it was not the cream that caused the breast cancer as it was quite a large tumour to have grown so quickly in 7 months.Weather its possibly added to the acceleration of the growth I'm not sure but even my doctors could not answer this.so now I'm back to square 1, all my symptoms are back with a vengance ! If I could be 100% sure the Serenity was not responsible in any way or form I wouldn't hesitate to use it again ! Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated !

Have you had a 2nd opinion on HRT? I just wonder why, if it was not hormone-related, your drs are being so adamant that you can't have HRT?

I don't think- though am by no means an expert- that this cream could trigger cancer, because from what I understand it contains minute amounts of the product and- without being a scientist- am not sure if it actually works once the metabolic process starts, after it's rubbed into the skin.

If you really cannot use HRT then have you thought about other things such as acupuncture, chinese herbal medicine, ayurvedic treatment, and similar? Maybe one of the charitiy forums for breast cancer sufferers would throw some light on what to do re HRT and other options?

Thanks missbopeep, I've made an appointment with my GP to refer me to a Menopause clinic to see if they can help in any way.Will have a look at what you suggested.The reason my Encologist has said no to HRT is because of the risk of it coming back & being hormone related.

Hi all, I'm a newbee at all this ! I had a hysterectomy 5 years ago when I was 47 due to complications with my periods. My ovaries were left intact so menopause did not occur straight away. For the past 6 months I have started all the symtoms. I am not taking anything as I am trying to cope by myself. The thing bothering me most is the weight gain, I,ve always maintained my weight but even without changing my eating habits i'm putting on weight ! Please help !! I read an article where it was said serenity cream helped to take the weight off, could this be so ?

Can't see how any cream can take the weight off. HRT may help because it puts your body back to a pre-meno state, though your metabolism will still have slowed down with age.
There's no scientific proof that Serenity works at all other than a placebo effect. Symptoms of the meno are down to lack of oestrogen. Women post meno are not supposed to have any progsterone in their bodies anyway , so it doesn't make sense to use it IMO.
