I am swollen up like a pufferfish and it is really painful.

Any advice on how to control this fluid retention, please?

I follow a good diet low in salt, drink at least four pints of water each day, am mobile/ do quite a bit of walking but I have put on 3/4 of a stone very quickly and don't feel great at all.

Good health otherwise.BP normal.

Menopause is proving rather hellish.Sad

That's quite an intake of water. I thought the current thinking is that we don't need to drink as much as 2 litres a day as there is a fair amount of water in the food we eat. Perhaps try to cut down on drinks and see how you go.

puffy - can't help but watching with interest as am also suffering in this way.... sympathy!

Thanks for the replies.

I have always drunk a lot of water and there is no underlying diabetes etc. I just love drinking it although I have cut down from around 7 pints per day.
Have some herbal diuretics from Boots but I will go to doc tomorrow as they can prescribe something stronger. It is really bad today and I am having difficulty holding things, ankles are like balloons. Sad

The lady in Boots was lovely but said she suffered for about six years before her menopause symptoms finally went.

Puffy- this is not really a symptom of the menopause.

Swollen ankles are something to take seriously as they can indicate problems with your kidneys, heart or blood pressure.

See your GP!

I am fuming - phoned surgery this morning but was told there were no slots today and phone tomorrow.
Thanks Amelia, it is starting to freak me out now as the fluid won't shift at all despite trying a longer walk than usual, no salt at all plus the useless herbal diuretics from Boots.
Will phone doc again tomorrow.

hope you're okay puffy?

puffyankles · 29/06/2012 14:37

Thank you MrsGuy - I feel quite odd but have an appointment at 4.30 today. Very dizzy and lightheaded plus feel like I'm veering off to one side. Hands and ankles still very swollen.
I'll let you know what the doctor says.
