How do I support my mum through the menopause?

My mum has been going having symptoms of the menopause for about 6 months, maybe longer; it's hard to say as she doesn't really talk about it. She has hot flushes and says it's just her age (she's 51). But her personality has changed so much - she's lost her confidence, has become very shy, is very tired all the time, takes things very personally and I find her generally hard to be around.

How do I help and support her through this experience? I know she talks to work colleagues who have been through it but she says she doesn't have it as bad as them. I think she's not aware of how much it's effected her personality, but I don't feel I can say that to her as she takes things very personally at the moment.
