Had my hysterectomy 12 days ago - really struggling - is this normal?

I went to a toddler group at day ten (DH dropped me and the DC off and picked us up - and every one helped while I was there) but I had a really bad reaction to it, and its put me back in terms of pain and ability to do anything.

DH is due to go back to work two weeks after the op and I am really starting to think I won't be able to cope with the DC on my own (DS 1 and 3).

Anyone have any experience of this - am I being completely unrealistic to think that I can do anything at all at this stage, or should I be worrying about my recovery?

Sorry I can't help, but I'm due to get a hysterectomy in a few months time, so just watching with interest. Can I ask if it was a full hysterectomy or laparoscopic? I'm trying to find out as much as I can about it.

Yes, it is normal. I overdid things as well in the first couple of weeks, and it put my recovery back. For the first couple of weeks at least, you really need to do the bare minimum to let your body recover from what is a major operation. I remember just walking very slowly around Sainsburys on day 10, and after a few minutes I was in agony. In fact, I think it took a good 3 weeks before I could cough without significant pain.

Is there anyone that can help with the DC after your DH goes back to work? I would be worried that you will be tempted to do too much and set yourself back further.

yourcallisimportant - it was the full deal - they took out ovaries, womb and cervix - and went through my tummy.

CultofScaro - I think we are going to have to get a temp nanny in - its not exactly in the budget Sad but needs must... I realize I simply can't do it on my own next week!
