Combined HRT + bleeding every 12 days - will this stop?

I've been taking Premique - a combined HRT for 4 months now. I'm 41 and prior to starting it I hadn't had a period for 7 months. Within 2 weeks of starting it I had a bleed and I have since had a relatively short and light bleed every 10-12 days.

Do you think this will settle down or should I ask the doctor for an HRT where you only take progestrogen every 3 months so I only bleed 4 times a year? I'm wondering if this HRT is unsuitable for me - it says in the leaflet that Premique is a period free HRT but that's clearly not my experience!!!

Hi choux have you had an answer yet? If it's a combined HRT with just one tablet and supposed to be period free the progesterone is taken every day with the oestrogen. I haven't taken tablets but I understand several women get spotting when going onto continous HRT. However I am really surprised you are on a period free HRT Shock because firstly you are only 41 and also combined continuous HRT is only supposed to be for women post menopause ie 2 years period free if under 50 or 1 year period free if over 50 (I think these numbers are correct) . I would definitely read up a bit about it and go back to your GP and ask to be put on a cyclical one which will give you a regular bleed. I have read on another forum about GPs giving women the wrong type!

The 3 month one is ususally for women who are progesterone intolerant as there is still a slightly higher risk with build up of womb lining with this.

Good luck! :)

can you give more info?
have you had blood tests- and not just one- to prove you are menopausal?

At 41 this would be an early meno and almost a prem. meno.

it is unusual to be given HRT after just missing 7 cycles as it is quite possible your periods will come back- depending on your hormone profile.

also, no bleed HRT is for women aged 54 or over who have not had a period for 1-2 years. Most (younger) women with irregular cycles take HRT which gives a monthly bleed- or possibly a 3 monthly bleed (I am on that aged 56 and periods stopped 2-3 years back.)

What's the back history to you taking HRT?
