Cyclical mood swings and lethargy

I know I'm perimenopausal, 44, have regular hot flushes, usually before a period. Periods are still regular by the way. My problem is I go from days/weeks to feeling full of energy, no desire to sleep, mood elevated consistently to periods of extreme fatigue, usually lasting a week. There seems to be no patterns to the "mood changes" and don't have a connection to pms (I've charted them). Also, when I am irritable, it tends to coincide with my up/energetic phases. My doc hasn't helped. What I want to know is, are cyclical mood & energy cycles common in the perimenopause or could it be something else? Any advice or similar experiences welcome Smile

are you sure they are not linked to pms?

Body temp rises post ovulation, so the temp rises/flushes a week before your period could be worse pms.

Otherwise it's hormone imbalance.

Exercise is very helpful- are you doing enough?

No, it's definitely not pms, as some months I've felt really good leading up to my period and during and felt crap after period. I work out why watching tv (!) and walk a lot. I'm a healthy size 8 to 10 and eat a good diet, low GI and all that. I'm sure the hot flushes are due to peri-menopause, but might get oestrogen levels checked out. What's a hormone imbalance?
