Unexpected period

I haven't had a period for ages. Thought I had finished with them. Woke up during the night on Monday to find I was starting one. It is heavier than I was used to and more painful. They never used to bother me much before. Is this usual? How will I know when they have definitely finished and I can throw the tampons away? Smile. I am nearly 54. Thought I was finished with all this nonsense.

Don't wish to scare you but i would make an appointment with a doctor and get a check up

How long is ages? If it's nearer a year than a few months then I'd definitely be concerned.

The bottom line is it's not normal for you so it needs investigating.

Ages = about 3 or 4 months.

This happens to me - go for 3/4 months and then have two in one month.

Don't like it!!!

purplepeony · 08/10/2010 17:23

Ages is not ages at all if it's 3-4 months.
I have had 3 more after a gap of 18 months!

unless you have had a gap of 12 months then are considered post meno, the gap you talk about is noraml.

Been playing the 3-4 month gap/ 2 in a month game for almost 3 years. Am 44 Hmm

Sadly it looks like you may have a while to go yet.

I went a year bar a bloody week & then had a two day period!

So, counting from day one again!

Before that it was a bit various for a short time.

Also, the first time I missed one, I then had two two weeks apart!
