Is there anything other than the menopause that could be causing...?

-Heavy, prolonged periods. 3rd consecutive year of a 6 month duration of almost constant bleeding.

  • Hot flushes
  • Night sweats

My GP has (finally) given me norethisterone to stem the bleeding. Hurrah.

He has in the past taken bloods, done an internal, done a smear, given me tranexamic acid.

He has now also taken bloods for what appears to be everything known to man, including anaemia, thyroid, etc. Results back next week.

GP told me not to worry about menopause yet as that would more likely cause scant rather than heavy periods.

I am 35 :(

Heavy Ps are not necessarily part of meno- I never had any.

Have you had a scan for fibroids? Have you asked for referreal to gynae? you ought to.

MNTotoro · 01/09/2010 08:13

GP says he will refer me to gynae if the bloods show nothing.

I'm just feeling anxious.
Can add insomnia to my symptoms. Sigh.

Hope you get on okay.

I had very heavy periods almost non-stop for a year. The gp sent me to gyna - the scan showed I had very thick womb lining. This was causing the bleeding. I was put on the mirena coil to reduce the problem. It seems to be working.

just started HRT and feel good.. Am 54 and I wish I had started around 4 years ago.. At last that feeling of gloom has gone!!

I have just been told my womb is thick and need further investigations.I was on HRT for about 18 months.I had more energy thats for sure,I went off it 4 months ago and the effects are kicking in,ie loss of energy.I don`t get blinding headaches or pmt,so its swings and roundabouts!

My periods got slowly heavier as I got older. It was noticeable from about 35, until, thank goodness, they stopped.

Hot flushes and night sweats sound like menopause, although you are rather young. Can't your GP test hormone levels or something for it?
