Manchester meet up

Thanks to Luchar, Ninja, Olive Oil et al........ here is a new thread dedicated to trying to get a Manchester meet up.

I'm on hols imminently (at last, at last) so wouldn't be able to do anything pre 16th August (what with washing and packing and unpacking and washing etc etc). Don't let that stop the rest of you!

Hope to see you soon

Pizza Hut!!??! I worked there once as a second job (lazy arse ex bf, long story) would have flashbacks nooooooooooooooooooooo. Ahem. Can we go to Pizza Express instead? They have a new spicy chicken pizza which is approximatly 3479 calories per slice but v nice.

I do work in town but have zero knowledge of bars and restarants so am hopeless for suggestions. Sorry.

Rhubarb - if you have emailed me over the past 2 weeks the server at work decided to crash when I was off and I have lost all my messages. Nice.

Rhubarb · 14/08/2003 14:11

Not to worry Oliveoil! Glad to hear that you are coming - on the 23rd that is! How about eating in Wetherspoon's then? Is it called 'Moon over Water' or something like that? The food and drink are usually quite cheap in there and it's not hard to find.

Gumdrop · 15/08/2003 13:30

Hi, I'm back (and finished the holiday wash).

Moon under Water sounds good to me - what time?

Looking forward to it.

Hi! Back from hols. Is the 'Moon under/over the Water' the pub on Deansgate just up from Kendals? If so then I know where you mean. Are we eating there? Do we need to book? What time shall we meet? Still not mentioned this to DH but will do tonight! He owes me one as I took the boys away for a whole week! DS1 missed him so much we won't be holidaying separately again (long story, new jobs, no choice in holiday weeks etc!!). Looking forward to meeting eveyone. How will we know who everyone is? It's soooo exciting!!!

ninja · 18/08/2003 19:48

I'm going - does anyone know if babies are allowed in the Wetherspoons pub (they must mustn't they if they serve food?)? if not I'll be the one staring in at you through the window!

Can't wait to meet you all

oliveoil · 19/08/2003 13:16

Grrrrrr. Husband shaped fly in ointment. He did his back in over the weekend and the osteopath (sp?) says he has a locked disc or something and has to take the week off work. He is seeing her again on Fri so will not know till then whether I can come or not - can't leave him alone with dd as he can't pick her up. Am really gutted. All my social arrangements seem to fall at the last hurdle, v fed up.

IF I can go I would prefer afternoon to morning but don't work round me as I may be absent

Can't have hair done this week either as the money carefully squirrelled away is now being spent on osteopath fees.

Gumdrop · 19/08/2003 13:56

Why don't we say meet up at 12.30?

Just checked out the Wetherspoons web site and The Moon Under Water is listed as having a "family dining area" where children are welcome up to about 6pm - I don't know how "on the lash" this is likely to get but I think I might have crawled home by then!

It seems a shame to exclude OliveOil by saying only babes in arms, so should we make it bring die kinder if you want to? Feel a bit guilty about wanting to exclude them in the first place, but still wouldn't want to inflict my pair on you at the moment. Muurrmmy, why can't I eat biscuits in bed. Murrmy, why can't the cat (3 legged already) have a ride in the swing? etc etc

12.30 it is then either with or without children. I'll be without (hurrah!) as have made a deal with DH (don't ask!). Really looking forward to it now.

oliveoil · 19/08/2003 15:26

Dh phoned before and 'is a bit better' so may be on for w/end after all.

Shall we all have flowers in our lapels to recognise each other or what?

ninja · 19/08/2003 17:59

ooh it;ll be just like having a blind date in the films - except with a better expectation of a good time I'll be the one with a very nosey 5 month old in my arms

Rhubarb · 19/08/2003 21:03

Oliveoil, please do bring her rather than not come! I'll be coming without I think, although I'm trying to persuade dh to come with me so that I don't have to get the train. He can have the day in M/cr with dd and we can meet up later.

12.30 sounds fine to me too. We could say to head for the family dining area, but we would still need to have some sort of identification!

Gumdrop · 20/08/2003 10:57

I'm not prepared to go down Deansgate sporting a POst-it saying "Gumdrop", so how about sporting post it, scrap of paper etc just with M on it (for mumsnet?).

If that's too embarassing, I'm tall, short hair and will be wearing jeans and white t shirt with "Speed Demon" on it.

See y'all

OP posts:
oliveoil · 20/08/2003 13:22

If I go I will be wearing jeans (Diesel ) with a white shirt with smudged banana and /or formula on the left shoulder. Probably. I am tall with long brown hair which will either be a) straight and frizzy or b) curly and frizzy depending on the weather.

Can you imagine walking in and recognising someone you have known for years??!!

Rhubarb · 20/08/2003 21:00

Good idea Gumdrop! How about whoever intends to be there first, selects a table and then puts a white card on it with a big black 'M' on it? I don't know what time I will be arriving, but I probably won't be first. In any case, if someone has arrived before their time, they can wait for the allocated person to get out their 'M' - what do you think?

ninja · 21/08/2003 10:42

Rhubarb that sounds sensible - and let everyone guess what the big M on the table is for. I'm a shortarse and will be wearing green linen trousers (the only thing that fits pp) and a baby - aren't they the latest accessory? I'll have straggly hair and make up that's been put on at the traffic light - am I painting an attractive picture?

I may have a pregnant mumsnetter with me - don't know her pseudonym but am trying to get her to attend - we'll see.

Rhubarb · 21/08/2003 17:19

Well I'll be up the duff too - don't know what I'm wearing, depends on the weather! And what's make-up? Surely that's for single women who can spend 2 hours in the bathroom every morning! I just about get enough time to comb my hair!

luchar · 22/08/2003 12:52

I'm not preggars but am a little bit plump! Will be wearing jeans (George!!!!), not sure what top yet though! Have a blond (ish) shoulder length bob and will be frantically looking for an 'M'. Hope i'm not the first one there (some hope!), can't wait to meet everyone. Getting excited now! Have even been promised a lie in in the morning by DH (incredible!)! See you all there.

Gumdrop · 22/08/2003 13:13

OK - I can't promise to be there any earlier than 12.30, but I will bring the M card. Please don't leave me sat there on my own very long!

Gumdrop

OP posts:
Rhubarb · 22/08/2003 16:34

Shall we all bring M cards and sit at different tables just to be wicked!

ninja · 23/08/2003 20:10

Well dd's in bed aslepp and I've caught up with the active conversations

Thanks Gumdrop for organising the meet today - I had a great time. I really enjoyed the food too - you can understand why I put on 3 stone while pregnant!

Rhubarb - I hope you found your DH and DD

Gumdrop - hope you found the blue material

Hope you're all up for another one

Gumdrop · 25/08/2003 11:00

Yes please - I had a good time on Saturday as well. Boo hiss to Wetherspoons who do have a family area, only you can't go in it on match days, and guess what, saturday was amatch day!

Huge apologies to anyone who turned up after we'd decamped in search of food (somewhere - anywhere!).

Ninja and Rhubarb's dd's are cute, tho.

Bloody server was down AGAIN at work yesterday, grrrrrrr.

I had a good time too on Saturday, got home to a clean house and a selection of 3 home made curries for dinner too so will have to do it again soon, dh must have missed me!
