who said i wasnt pakistani? im just not from leicester! though dh did go to uni their, and has friends there, so have been a couple of times.

Impressed by your sil. How did she learn Urdu?
Interesting, why some bilingual children will speak second language with "funny" accent and how some don't although in both circumstances learned from early age. I know of some children of friends where both parents are from Pakistan and they speak Urdu with Birmingham accent...

PKhasan...

I totally understand how you want to meet some women of your own culture, and after seeing your thread on at least three sections of mumsnet, you must really need it!
Maybe pakistani mums in leicester dont visit this site or even use the internet, but when I visited their I saw a large asian community.
Maybe try going to playgroups with your daughter. Do you have 'sure start' in your area?
In my area they do asian and somali groups for mums so it might be a good idea to check.
Also, you said that when eid or diwali comes you want to celebrate..
which religion do you follow?
You may have more luck posting to muslim, or hindu mums.

Thanks Halzer
GOD!!! I never realised how desparate I sound ...LOL Its terrible.
May be I am! I thought if I cover all the sections may be one Pakistani person will come fwd.
I see so many asians around myself, but you cant go up to them and say what???? I mean I know some pakistani just up the road but i'm not going to go up to them and make a total fool out of self, do you knw what i'm saying, its just embarrassing.
I think i'll give up and enjoy myself with my NON ASIAN friends and just GO HOME to celebrate my events;)! By the way I'm a Muslim.:0

Pkhasan...
If there are pakistanis just up the road,do you know what I would do?
On a "special" day like the first day of Ramadhan or whatever...go and give them some samosa's or something. It sounds corny but when I first moved to my area (Ilford) thats what the neighbours did to me, and it got us talking.

What area of London did you use to live...Im guessing walthamstow

pkhasan · 05/07/2005 16:29

hey I'm from Ilford too.. well i was!
Hmm samosas.... Well I moved here only this year so I guess it hasnt been that long...
Actually you knw what it is I have never been stay home type now all of a sudden I have to be so I'm taking it rather unwell....I guess its not soo bad. I like things to happen RIGHT AWAY...real bad I know!I mean I only discovered this site 2 weeks ago so you can imagine!

??????
why is it embarassing to go up and say hello? why would you be making a fool of yourself? just say hello. if they reply, fine, if not, then put them down as being rude!
have some self confidence girl!

KathH · 06/07/2005 21:05
