City of London Weekday Evening Drinks/Dinner?

Is anyone still interested in the idea of a City weekday evening drinks meet-up? We would have more time to chat than at lunch time and could speak to more people than when seated. Also, those of us who seem to keep missing lunch might stand a better chance of making it after work. There are lots of nice bars around Farringdon and Barbican which I know, which serve food, either tapas or with tables for a full meal. What do people think? What type of place would you prefer (but please let's not get into the how-to-split-the-bill debate here )? What time can most people get away from work?

I'd come and join you later, once my DD1 is home to babysit. I don't work in the city but I can get in from where I live by train, and sometimes travel in to meet friends for the evening.

I'd really like to but it means DH having to put all three sprogs to bed, which is a big ask and not one I can pull more often than about once a month (as I do sometimes have to stay late at work).

sunnyskies · 26/04/2005 21:22

Sounds good as I only get half and hour for lunch and never seem to get to the meet.

kate79 · 28/04/2005 12:04

sounds good to me CAT me if you get a date and time together i live in Ec1 so no problems there. i have a ds who is 12 months

Marina · 28/04/2005 12:06

Have similar dinoesque reservations, DWC...but could possibly make a Thursday night meet for a while post 7.15pm

bossykate · 28/04/2005 12:10

i would be interested, evening suits me better than lunchtime.

Kayleigh · 28/04/2005 12:27

Bit difficult for me as it means arranging someone to collect kids from childminder and sort out bath/bed until dh gets in. But not unheard of . Let me know when you have a date and i'll see if it's feasible.

Would be lovely not to have the time constraint of lunchtime meet-ups. Would be free from 5:00 after work - and I eat anything !!!

But she does prefer food that causes fat to drip off your elbows

Kayleigh · 28/04/2005 12:40

oh anorak, that truely makes me sound delightful.
The city girls think I'm a Laydee. Please don't go shattering their illusions just because you've seen me delve into a mountain of spare ribs on the odd occasion.

Would anyone like to meet for City drinks next week? Either Monday 13 or Friday 17 June?

i could do the week after...

bossykate · 08/06/2005 21:34

surely there must be others for whom evening is more convenient than lunch? huh? huh?

no but... seriously, i get into work later so that i can see the kids in the morning... that means my standard day ends later (if i get to work a standard day)... so going out for lunch (social lunches always more than an hour, ime) means it will be even later before i leave*... in any event, surely i can't be the only one who simply can't relax because there's always that sneaky clock watching thing going on which prevents talking/listening properly?

or maybe it's just me!

- but i do* get passes to go out in the evening, so while i try and leave as early as i can, evenings still work out better for me socially than lunches.

anyone still reading at this point?
