Any shy, reserved, older Mums from Maidstone?

Hi,

I am older Mother from Maidstone. I have an 18 month old son who I realise would benefit from joining a Mother and toddler group. While I wish very much to take him, I am held back by my severe shyness and (to make things worse) I am very reserved as a result. This was me as a child - always the quiet one who held back. I know I come across as unfriendly but inside I am not and I wish I could deal with it. I just find it hard to mix with new people and imagine they will dislike me from the off.

I am constantly nagged by a well meaning granny and aunt telling me I should be taking my son here and there. One of the things said to me was that he would stand out at school as the kid who didn't go to a toddler group, which upset me. I know they are right but I feel I am being "bullied" by them. My ds is (luckily at the moment) naturally very sociable, and I do not want to hold him back.

Please, can anyone help?

Hi all

I have been reading through your messages and can relate to you.
I am a very happy person, though since having my second child have found that i am gradually losing my self esteem, which i want to nip in the bud now. I think that has alot to do with staying in doors and the weather doesn't really give me that get up and go feeling.
When i take my newborn to see the health visitos at the community centre i find myself smiliing at everyone (probably looking silly) though not many other mothers seem to smile back, which makes me feel silly and not wanting to make coverstation. This has put me off going to toddler groups as worried that i won't fit in.
I do take my son to Larkabout at larkfield lesiure centre often so if anyone fancies meeting that would be great.
I am 31 with a two year old and a 2 month old.

Hi all,

I live in Maidstone town centre, I'm 41 and I have 5 kids, 13, 10 and half, 4 and half, nearly 3 and 10 mths.

I go to St Lukes Skedge on a Monday morning, we're very friendly there, you are quite welcome to come along and say hello although I do believe there is a waiting list.

I live Allen street

Also go to Polar sometimes, sometimes Kids Zone, on a Wednesday morning, and sometimes just for a grown up coffee.

Would love to meet up. have only just seen this so missed the 13th.

I live nowhere near MAIDSTONE, but wish I was your ages! I was 56 yesterday with 10 yr old triplets, probably the oldest MN on here!

Bensmum01 · 26/03/2008 11:04

hope all is well with everyone, weather has been awful hasn't it?!!
Hello Liahgen hope you are ok, i haven been to larkfield leisure centre is it near tesco's? my lil boys loves swimming so we could meet up one moning if you fancy it?
Wow triplets you really do have you work cut out, i emailed st lukes about their toddler groups and have of yet to be graced with a response to my email! it really puts you off dont you think!
Fingers crossed weather will be better in the next couple of weeks and arrange a session at mote park or one of the soft play centres nearby? what does everyone think? x

liahgen · 26/03/2008 11:42

Hi Bensmum. You shoulkd phone St. Lukes, wendy is not very computer literate me thinks, 3 old ladies run the group. They are lovely.

Baby has come down with chicken pox today, it's her christening on Sunday!!

Larkfield has a good play area, not too far from Tesco, nice food too. I will be out of the picture for 7-10 days but would love to meet when little one is better.

Off to hang out washing now, make the most of the sun. x

OrmIrian · 26/03/2008 11:44

I am all those things. Apart from not being from Maidstone .

Looks like you've got some replies though.

Mumd · 26/03/2008 22:55

Let me know when and if you go to larkfield as it would be nice to have a chat whilst my 2 year old played.

I can not wait for summer to come, though the clocks go forward this sunday so it will be better with lighter evenings

Hope your little one is not too bad for sunday.

Hi all

I have been reading through messages and can relate - My son is 3 months old and the thought of going to a mother and toddler groups worries me as I am shy when meeting new people. I stay at home alot and this is not healthy for me or my son, but I do not have the confidence to go to any of these baby groups.

chloster · 06/05/2009 16:02
