All June 07 mums and babies welcome

Venue Suggestions

Kew Gardens
Richmond Park
Hornimans

Date Suggestions

I suggest we all put down the dates in the week commencing Mon 18th August that best suits and we'll go from there.

So......

Daisy: Tuesday to Friday, venue no preference.

Fairy - Any day that week is fine. Would prefer Kew or Richmond Park but will still come if it is Hornimans

LittleMissNorty · 03/06/2008 20:59

Norty:

I'd prefer Weds/Thurs/Fri but can do any day that week if needs be.

I'd love Richmond Park if we can guarantee fine weather but fear it'll be miserable in the rain. Kew Gardens would be better as it has under cover areas too. Hornimans would be a bit of a pain for me to get to, to be honest, but could probably do it.

London Aquarium/walk along South Bank/wobbly bridge/Tate Modern/St Pauls anyone?

HollyPutTheKettleOn · 03/06/2008 22:13

Count me in!

Any day that week is good for me, I don't have a RL after all!

As for venue, I'm not too bothered as long as I get to meet everyone! I would really prefer it not to be Hornimans as it would take me fucking ages to get there and would be a hellish nightmare as I have to change trains 4-5 times.

Can I suggest Natural History/Science Museums? We went to the Nat Hist a few weeks ago and dd and ds loved the dinosaurs! Ds does a great dinosaur impression now! Grrrrr....!

Tate Modern or along the South Bank would be GREAT for me as I get off the train at Waterloo or Covent Garden as I then only have to walk across the bridge (not I'm being selfish or anything !).

Can't wait!

lackaDAISYcal · 03/06/2008 23:08

Holly, my whole raison d'etre for coming to the big city is to take DS to the Natural History Museum and was going to go the day after I'd met all you guys.

If we could meet there, it'd kill two birds with one stone.

I am He is dying to see dinosaurs

OP posts:
JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 04/06/2008 06:35

Well the museums suit me, and if we want a bit of green space for LOs to run about it's just a stroll up to Hyde Park.

andiem · 04/06/2008 08:22

wed thurs fri better for me

musuems good but because there are a lot of us could be tricky to actually meet in one as they will be heaving

think a park would be better as more space to run around for older ones

we could always do two trips park one day natural history the next and then people could come to both or either

HollyPutTheKettleOn · 04/06/2008 08:28

I heart the Natural History Museum! When we went a few weeks ago it was really a flying visit. We looked at the dinosaurs and then left. It would be great to have a proper look around. Then if it is raining we could have coffee in the cafe and if it is sunny we could have a picnic outside.

We could go to the Science museum afterwards as well. It is great for kids, there is a nig adventure playground type area for the older ones.

Does BZ know about the meet up? I'll email her later to make sure.

HellHathNoFury · 04/06/2008 08:58

Any day is fine for me. DH might want to come though, he likes to be 'involved'.

Having just been to Kew Gardens and loved it, tis definately my preference. Lots and lots of green grass and space and very safe for kids. And clean, no dog poo

DS likes running around and I worry about the inclines/concrete bits at Hornimans, it's just the sort of thing he'll try and maul himself on.

For indoors, natural history/science museum is fine, but will be cramped...but then so would anywhere!

London Aquarium not great IMHO.

FrazzledFairyFay · 04/06/2008 09:51

I'm a bit worried that with museums, we might lose each other/the DCs, as August will be very busy being holiday season.

Somewhere we could have a picnic would be good, with a back-up plan for if it's raining.

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 04/06/2008 11:44

Agree that meeting in a museum could be tricky - and a park area would be more sociable, there's only so much chatting you can do in a museum without getting on everyone else's nerves! But think we do need back up plan for a rainy day. Like Fury i would also be quite keen on Kew Gardens. i think it offers a good mix of outdoors space and undercover areas, but I appreciate it has a noticable entrance fee, unlike some of the museums, and that it might not be everyone's cup of tea.

HollyPutTheKettleOn · 04/06/2008 14:26

Ummmm....just checked the Kew website and it is £13 entrance ! Am I missing something or is it just a garden?

I don't think I'll really be able to afford that along with the £38 train fare + lunch and coffees etc. It all adds up.

lackaDAISYcal · 04/06/2008 14:34

holly, that entrance fee is if you want to go into the glass houses I think. If you just want to go to the outside bits then it's free...at least it was when i was there.........erm 14 years ago!

OP posts:
HollyPutTheKettleOn · 04/06/2008 14:44

Oh ok, it's just on the website it only has one entrance price to visit the gardens. If it's free though I am up for it, I can easily get a mainline train to Kew from Waterloo.

HellHathNoFury · 04/06/2008 14:46

Nope, it's a fee for everything - but Holly I think I can get a BOGOF, so it's only £5.50 each (kids are free I think), would you be up for that if I can get it?

HollyPutTheKettleOn · 04/06/2008 14:58

Ok fury, that sounds like a more acceptable entrance fee! Thanks very much!

£13 to go to a garden just sounded a little steep to me!

lackaDAISYcal · 04/06/2008 15:02

I'm at that holly; I'm sure it was free when I was there...but it was aeons ago.

OP posts:
FrazzledFairyFay · 04/06/2008 15:28

There is a fee for all adults to Kew. You can get BOGOF if you come by train - and it sounds like Fury knows another way to get it as well. It is nice as it is safe for the lo's to run around as no traffic, dogs, etc - and there is an indoor play area. I might be a bit biased though, as I'm a member . I do get concessionary prices for my guests - but I can't see on the website anywhere how much the discount is - but tbh it's unlikely to beat a BOGOF deal.

Richmond Park is also nice (and free), but there are deer, dogs, horses, etc. to watch out for. There is a coffee shop/restaurant to go into if it rains (I think it's called Pembroke Lodge).

I'm very happy for the non-locals to decide where you'd like to go and on what day as you are coming further and are only here for a day. So I'll bow out of the discussions for a bit and go with whatever is decided.

HellHathNoFury · 04/06/2008 15:46

Fairy yes that's the BOGOF I can get, coming by train. That expired 31st May but they usually do it continuously so chances are it will come up again!

If not I can bargain hunt!

HellHathNoFury · 05/06/2008 20:21

Bugger!
I collected the summer train vouchers and Kew isn't in it. So unless we can get discounts from somewhere else, it's £13.

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 05/06/2008 21:25

Will there be enough of us to class as a group? - that normally brings the entrance fee down

Where is included in the 2 for 1 train offer?

You only save £2 at Kew by booking as a group. I shall do some research and see if I can find any Kew offers. If they are out there I shall find them!
