so I did promise to make a thread and then disappeared, so here it is. Must warn you I am crap at organising so if someone would boss me about and organise me that would be great! Anyway as far as I know there is homebird11 who is in Thanet, Tessiebear in Deal....wasnt someone in Broadstairs? I am in Herne Bay

So anywhere really, I can get to most places by train and i think some of you can drive, so who's up for it? and where do we meet?

see told you I was rubbish at organising!

Don't panic Tessiebear. Sorry we won't see you. Maybe next time.

Cadbury · 19/08/2004 19:04

Well, me and the kids had a very soggy half hour on the beech followed by watching the waves try to swamp the harbour while we ate our lunch and then a grizzly walk back to the station. Good to get out but not the right kind of day for it I fear!
What happened to you Sarochka? I waited around for a while.

SarneyBarney · 20/08/2004 13:18

Poor Cadbury! Sounds like you had a miserable time and all alone!! Well, my coach party to joss bay was great. We had a little rain but we persevered in true dunkirk spirit and it cleared up in the afternoon. A jolly day was had by all and we headed back at around 4ish.

Tessiebear · 20/08/2004 14:36

Sorry Cadders - what happened to Sarochka???

Fio2 · 20/08/2004 14:38

come round mine and we will share a bottle of vino

no seriously we will have to re-arrange and all turn up next time!

OP posts:
Tessiebear · 20/08/2004 14:39

I agree Fio - by the way how are you doing now??

Fio2 · 20/08/2004 14:41

absolutely dreading my onslaught of work(on the house) and doing okay apart from that, I think! how are you?

OP posts:
Tessiebear · 20/08/2004 14:43

Fine thanks! Am a bit stressed as i am trying to paint the kitchen with my DS's in tow!!

Fio2 · 20/08/2004 14:45

oh its a nightmare isnt it? one will be back at school though soon, so it will be easier (thats what I keep telling myself!) good luck with the painting!

Fio - did you get hold of Keith the plumber? Was he any good? I'm sorry I haven't got back to you yet with other numbers, it's all been a mad rush in my last week at home and now I'm back in bl**dy New Jersey Hope your drains are fixed though, at least.

Fio2 · 20/08/2004 15:03

no they are not fixed! I have tried to ring keith but not got through, i will try him again. You have been very helpful, dont worry and now you are in new jersey! next time you are down, you must meet up with us all!

OP posts:
Turquoise · 20/08/2004 15:08

maybe he is on holiday?
I will ask various other locals (via phone or email) for recommendations though - sorry it got forgotten in the last minute rush.
Wish I was still there for a meet-up, I never appreciated home so much till I had to leave it.

Fio2 · 20/08/2004 15:13

awww bless sorry you feel so homesick, and thanks for your help. Are you in the US on business?

OP posts:
Turquoise · 20/08/2004 15:19

DP has taken a job in Manhattan, so we all piled out here 9 months ago. I was getting quite settled, but the trip home has stirred it all up a bit! How long have you been in Herne Bay? Do you like it, in spite of all the bother with plumbers? I'm thinking of looking around that area (Whitstable/Tankerton or as far along as Deal) when we get back. Herne Bay looks very good value for houses.

Fio2 · 20/08/2004 15:27

buy mine! hehehe, it has great rental potential if you are thinking buy to let for a while? We have been here since middle of april and i really love the house, its just lovely, the position is great, we are right by the beach, in town. Schools are very good here now. My daughter is going to school in canterbury, as she has special needs, but has the choice of a few schools here as a mainstream placement. We have just had bad luck on the job front, so it looks like we may have to move again. Dh is working in dorset, can you beleive it?! are you still on the same e-mail? I could e-mail you if you like?

OP posts:
Turquoise · 20/08/2004 15:37

if only! Don't know how long we're here for - dp and ds love it, me and dd aren't so keen (to put it mildly!) Though the drive thru dunkin donuts facility is a plus .
I'm still the same email - and I WILL get more numbers for you in the next week or so, it's just very annoying that my two most local friends to you (Faversham and Chestfield) have now gone on holiday. But I've just remembered my friend in Deal's dad was a builder, so he should have some contacts as far afield as Canterbury at least. I'll get on the case and email you when I've got something.

Cadbury · 20/08/2004 15:51

Hello. Just back from a trip to Kent Uni (where my mum is studying ) to have a look round. Have managed to leave dd at my folks, asleep on her papas lap and now ds has fallen asleep too. A bit of free time. YEA!

I'd love to try another meet up. Someone else suggerst something they can make. I know I'm busy on Monday and Tuesday next week but I think that's all for the forseeable.

No idea what happened to sarochka. Hope she is ok.

What colour are you doing your kitchen Tessibear? Ours really needs a lick of paint (and new cupboards and appliances) but that would mean displacing the cobwebs and I just don't have a energy!

Fio2 · 20/08/2004 15:56

I have to be honest and say unless it is here I will not be able to make it in the next few weeks because of all the work that is going on!! But september onwards will most probably be fine and I will only have my boy brat then as dd will be at school!

OP posts:
Cadbury · 20/08/2004 16:09

Well would you rather leave it until september?

Fio2 · 20/08/2004 16:20

i dunno, what do you think? I just dont want to leave my dogs alone(not for long anyway!) when workmen are in the house iykwim but you are all welcome to meet sooner without me, i am not being bossy

OP posts:
Cadbury · 20/08/2004 17:23

Well I'd quite like to meet this ellusive fio. It is easer for me in some ways to meet up before September because after that, all the routine business creeps in and the only day I would have clear to go anywhere is Friday. I'm happy to come to you or near you depending on what you feel comfortable with. In the midst of your upheavals at home, it all depends what's best for you.

Tessiebear · 20/08/2004 17:42

Just painting it Magnolia Cadbury. We had a new kitchen put in in March (having survived on a really minimalistic one for a year since we bought and gutted our house but didnt have enough for new kitchen at the time) Since then we have not done any painting or tiling and so i thought i ought to take matters into my own hands - that might give DH the kick he needs to phone the tiling man!

Fio2 · 20/08/2004 17:47

ok cadbury, I take it you got my e-mail?

didnt know I was ellusive! lol

OP posts:
Cadbury · 20/08/2004 18:00

Good for you Tessiebear. Hope you will have it all sorted soon. When my friend had her kitchen done (by her hubby and his dad) she was washing up in the bath for over a month. That started out as an encouragement but didn't really sound like one. Sorry.
Fio- yes I got your email, thanks. Been manic today so hadn't replied. My nan always said that a woman should always be a little ellusive or enigmatic or something. It keeps people guessing aparantely!
