not really a meetup thread, but we're still trying to decide between moving to chesterfield and sheffield. Apparently sheffield homes cost 10% or so more than advertised usually, so on property prices chesterfield is leading.

But there does seem to be a distinct lack of civic pride in chesterfield - a few people have groaned when I've suggested it. is it that bad? are people less friendly there than in sheffield? what are the areas to avoid?

programming, sn.

We'll probably need to employ at least one recent-ish computer studies graduate and one admin assistant in the first year or two. It's the graduates we think may be a problem (have been advertising this post for over a year now, but being as we're in Spain and need English speakers, haven't had any luck).

Agree
Matlock would be a great place to go for these sort of people to employ
The bookshop your thinking of is at Cromford! Scarthin Books, fabulous place

ooh I love that first house. probably in budget too (don't really know until we've done this year's accounts and planned for next year). garden-office could work - was thinking of a double garage or something, or of renting an office separately.

hello, I'm new to this site and was new to chesterfield 2 years ago. I live in Walton and it's a great area to bring up family.
close to the peaks and close enough to get the big city benefits of sheff. Chesterfield is even aquiring some nice town centre bars now! Does anyone live near me have any time on their hands and like 2 meet?

Hey! Sorry not been around much on MN but have just seen this thread. I live just outside Chesterfield in a small village close to Clay Cross. I'm not from Chessie but have lived here for around 11 years and actually love the place - if you want to contact me SP then please do cos I feel qualified to give you the low down having actually chosen to live here!Would be happy to help you look at pro's and cons of different areas and give you some ideas about where to find staff too!

Also if FT2 wants to meet then please let me know!

I knew somebody lived in chesterfield!

we're coming over for a visit in April - plan to have cups of tea in cafes, play in parks and ask questions of passers by in each town (chesterfield, matlock, dron field and poss some of the villages frizbe mentioned if they're not too small). is that a good plan d'ya think or will we get beaten up?

Hi SP!

Sorry this is very late and you've already been to Chesterfield by now but I've only just joined MN.

I was born and brought up in Chesterfield and feel I must defend it. I moved away for University and was away for ten years and moved back here with my husband and daughter last year. I have found massive improvements in the town centre, the community feel and the look of the place. I love living here!

I'm in Old Whittington which is lovely and friendly and would like to say that, like every other town, we have some nicer areas and not as nice ones. Walton, Tapton, Ashgate and Upper Newbold are particularly nice but lovely big old (and new) houses can be found within your price range all over Chesterfield.

We're so well placed for the beautiful Peaks and the Dales, for Sheffield and many gorgeous villages. And Chesterfield does have a strong community of commuters where, I'm sure, you'll find a Programmer...in fact one of my sister's best friends does just that and has recently got a new programming job closer to home as she was fed up with travelling.

Anyway, that's my opinion given. Hope you found somewhere lovely! Don't be afraid to contact me if you need any help with anything as I used to be an Administrator so I'm good at organising!
