Working bites the big one. Especially when you have to do it here.

saltire · 09/01/2007 10:33

expat, i'm not sure you saw my message on another thread, but that offer i made to you before New Year, still stands. You're welcome any time

nailpolish · 09/01/2007 10:34

expat we could do a house swap

NDPWillSpendLessTimeHereIn2007 · 09/01/2007 10:36

Oh no . Sorry to hear that, naily.

Did you both think any further about that North Sea idea you had a while ago ?

On the upside, at least Edinburgh has good shops and it's not massively unrealistic for me to come and visit

expatinscotland · 09/01/2007 10:37

This is a rental, Naily.

Besides, it's a 2-bed flat on the 2nd floor w/no garden, although it does have a private car park, which is turning into a bit of a goldmine given the boom this part of town has experienced.

One bed 'loft' flats across the street are going for £140K by summer. It's a new development.

expatinscotland · 09/01/2007 10:38

Great shops and social life around here.

'The Shore', it's called.

nailpolish · 09/01/2007 10:39

he is exploring so many options ive lost count

dont worry or be sorry ndp, itll work out in the end

i really like Edinburgh and i miss the city life a lot at times, so its not so bad

wont be able to afford such a nice house in Ed as the one i have here tho!

at the end of the day, its just a house, houses are not what amkes you happy after all, really, you know?

If you can afford to have a social life once you've paid the massive rents, eh expat ?

NDPWillSpendLessTimeHereIn2007 · 09/01/2007 10:40

That is true, naily.

nailpolish · 09/01/2007 10:40

i LOVE the shore

OP posts:
nailpolish · 09/01/2007 10:41

i am actually surprised at what is affordable in Edinburgh tbh

i spend my days on ESPC

it doesnt have to be a house, i dont mind flats, but i am insisting on a garden

What is 'the shore' ? A shopping centre doo-dah with bars ?

nailpolish · 09/01/2007 10:42

the Shore is Leith which is totally trendy with great bars and shops

OP posts:
saltire · 09/01/2007 10:43

I love Edinburgh, i wish there was an RAF base there, i'd pester DH to move if there was

expatinscotland · 09/01/2007 10:43

It's an area of town, NDP, that's trendy and overpriced and full of flats, 'lofts', bars, restaurants, shops, etc.

Can't swing a cat for hitting one or the other around here.

NDPWillSpendLessTimeHereIn2007 · 09/01/2007 10:43

It sounds like prices are very similar to here, expat.

Link me to some house porn please, naily...

nailpolish · 09/01/2007 10:43

not really a shopping centre, a district of Ed which is quite old and has been re-generated, etc

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 09/01/2007 10:43

The flat across the street went for £188,000 and it's FREEZING in there!

NDPWillSpendLessTimeHereIn2007 · 09/01/2007 10:43

lol

LittleSarah · 09/01/2007 10:48

I'd tag along I'm sure...

(I'll never be able to buy here. Ever!)

expatinscotland · 09/01/2007 10:48

It's ANCIENT.

Was walking through the Links hte other day, wondering how it is that those lands belonged to the Duke of Buccleuch, when his seat is in the West Coast, when I saw one of those historical signs.

Appears the land was not only a links, but also a mass grave for hundreds of plague victims.

Nooooiiicceee.

The church across the street has been a parish since 1483.

LittleSarah · 09/01/2007 10:49

Oh expat, you mentioned on the thread about organic/herbal soaps etc about getting one from a herbalist? Can I ask which herbalist it was and what you recommend?

expatinscotland · 09/01/2007 10:49

I use Napiers in Lauriston Place.

LittleSarah · 09/01/2007 10:50

Do you get them to mix you something? I went there and couldn't really see much stuff for kids.
