I live in Worthing & would love to meet anyone!!! Have a five month old but just don't seem to have met any other mums yet! Need to start getting out there cos my little man will grow up thinking mummy's only friend is Granny!!!

littlemisspickles · 16/01/2007 14:27

I know what you mean, as my family live miles away, my 6 week old daughter must imagine I only know the Health Visitor! I also live in Worthing and am finding it hard meeting other Mums too.

Vicky75 · 16/01/2007 21:09

Hello, nice to hear from somone! It's a shame that Worthing Hospital doesn't do antenatal classes cos I think you miss out on making friends that way.
I've logged on to Neighbourhood Mums on various websites but it feels like a weird dating agency!!! But it is nice to talk to people-it's just getting the nerve up to meeting!
I've just started a music class this week & I was doing swimming classes but the only other people in the class were sisters so didn't really talk to me! But I'm going to a different pool tomorrow so hopefully it'll be better.
Which health visitor do you go to? We go to one in Goring but only go once a fortnight cos I was getting hung up on my little man's weight gain (or lack of)!

Tortington · 16/01/2007 21:14

i live in goring! i probably see you in town.

anyway. when are we meeting i want to get slightly inhebriated.

Vicky75 · 16/01/2007 21:53

OMG! I live in Goring too so I probably see you at the health visitor or something!!!

Vicky75 · 16/01/2007 21:55

I've just realised how stupid I cound cos of course I live in Goring if that's where my health visitor is!!!
Very tired at mo with naughty boy mucking about at night so don't know what I'm saying or doing half the time!!!

RnBee · 16/01/2007 22:05

Hi Charleysangel. I am in Brighton and up for meeting for poker and tequila, ahem, I mean the park and coffee. There is also a Brighton MeetUp soon which you are welcome to,

littlemisspickles · 16/01/2007 22:55

Hi Vicky75
My HV is in Durrington, as that's where I live.
What swimming lessons are you going to? I looked into some but not sure I can justify the cost.
Agree about the "online dating feel" but other than smile at other women pushing buggies - what's a girl to do!

Vindaloo · 16/01/2007 23:58

Hi Charley and Co. I have a toddler who is really doing my head in at the moment!

I am always up for meeting up. I met some of the other members of the Brighton gang over xmas and had such a fab time.

See you guys soon
X

Hiya, littlemisspickles! We went to Henry House for his first course but trying out Swim Babies at Palatine School today. Know what you mean by the cost but his Daddy is a windsurfer & is very keen for his little man to love the water too! Must be q wweird boy thing!
Know what you mean by smiling at other mums but I think sometimes I might border on looking desperate & deranged! Quite good to feed little man in Mothercare cos you get talking to mums there but again if you said "Let's meet up" they'd run screaming in terror!!!!
Met some lovely mums having coffee in Starbucks etc. & you come away feeling a bit sad! Only a couple of my frens have got babies but it's not always possible to see them cos they live further away.
God, do i sound desperate for friends?!

Vindaloo · 17/01/2007 10:38

Hi Vicky just wanted to say - you dont sound desperate for friends at all. my dd goes to nursery which has really helped me as I now have a couple of good mummy friends from there, but that did take a while. Being a single mum that was a relief!!

Lamby71 · 17/01/2007 20:05

I live on Shoreham Beach and much as living near the sea is lovely it's not the sort of place you bump into people in the street - too quiet. So ... like you Vicky, feeling a distinct lack of friends during the week - excluding my weekly coffee with NCT mates who are all lovely (mainly based in Worthing/and west of - so some consolation, there are some lovely Mums hidden away round there). On Monday I found myself chatting to old ladies on the seafront - compulsively - quite frightening. Have only been in the area for 12 months and half of that I was commuting to London for work and too kn*ckered to try and make new friends. I've got a 6mth old boy and am also worried about him lacking company. Blah blah - honestly you can tell I've not talked my quota today. Anyway ... I'd better get off my butt and get to a meeting. Will keep an eye on the Brighton thread. It's time I took action.

Tortington · 17/01/2007 20:33

hi vicky,

no not the same health visitor - i dont have one, my kids are teens. although i live neer palatine road, my dh used to work in durrington - its where i shop at tesco.

Tortington · 17/01/2007 20:34

can we please arrannge a brighton piss up - i mean dignified luncheon.

Vicky75 · 17/01/2007 20:42

Custardo, no wonder you're up for getting tipsy-you don't have to get up in the night anymore, LUCKY YOU!!!
Lamby71, I know what you mean about walks on the seafront. My little man was born in August so at least the weather was nice to go out along the promenade then. Now the weather isn't so great (although perfect for my other half for windsurfing) I can't really go out. Although I am encouraged to take him out so he gets used to the wind to be like his Daddy!!! I don't think so!
I was quite busy with work & little man came early so never got a chance to join NCT, although I had every intention. So that's nice that you get to meet up with those mums.
Maybe we should organise a Worthing get together, obviously Shoreham mummys included!!!-something easy like a coffee somewhere or meeting at a playgroup so it isn't so much like meeting on a blind date!!!!

Lamby71 · 18/01/2007 09:21

I'd be up for a meet - Worthing if it's easy? We could do Brighton meet too. I can drive. Do you ever go to the Bluebird cafe or Sea Lane cafe to have a drink and be by the sea? What is it with windsurfing men - I know at least half a dozen with children who are desperate for their kids to swim asap so they can get on a board! We moved here so I could take it up again but I'm so out of practise I'm scared the coastguard will have to come and get me.

littlemisspickles · 18/01/2007 11:12

Hi all
I think the Sea Lane cafe idea is a good one, probably fairly bracing on a day like today!!
Wasn't just the weather that was rough last night - dd was awake from 8pm - 4am, feeding, windy and I think the technical term is "fussing!" And already this morning I have had to wrestle a fence panel to the ground before it took off into next doors garden!
Got our 6 week check up today, other than that I am staying put!
How was the swimming lesson Vicky? That was the one I looked at.
Gotta go - nappy to change!! Looking forward to the blind date

Vicky75 · 18/01/2007 18:31

I live 2 minutes from Sea Lane Cafe-go there quite a lot-especially when other half offers to buy breakfast!! (I know there's codes for all these names, like dd & dh but I have know idea what they mean!)
Swimbabies is fab-really enjoyed it. The teacher was lovely but very glamorous- other half has seen a picture of her on their website & has suddenly offered his help for getting little man changed every lesson! Nothing like a pretty skinny female in a swimsuit to make us new mummys feel great ! But would def recommend it. Henry House was more singing songs but this has a bit more water safety stuff.
Really don't mind where we meet or when-Monday ams are music classes & wednesday lunchtimes are swimming classes but apart from that...?
Lamby71, you might fimd we know the same windsurfers. Other half used to live on Shoreham Beach & a couple of his best mates are still there. Don't suppose they're police officers?! Can't believe you windsurf too-going to keep that quiet from other half cos he's suggested it over the years we've been together & so far have resisted! All that wind & sea salt-no thanks!!! But good on you for doing it.
