Hello there! I am about to move to Whitby at the end of December and was wondering if there are any mumsnetters in that beautiful part of the world?
Would love to hear from anyone in the area, and find out about groups etc.
I have 2 DSs, an eight year old and a one year old. Be seeing you soon!

Hi Zimum - not in Whitby but I live in HArrogate (hence the name!) in North Yorkshire adn there are a few of us here (Bettythebuilder, Notsogummyanymore, Northerner and others whose names I dont know off the top of my head). There is also Yellow Feathers and Twinklemegan in Northallerton - infact we are having a mini Mumsnet meet up today with them!

Not sure if there is anyone else in Whitby - where are you moving from? If you have transport I am sure we can arrange another meet-up in the new year once you have settled in - welcome to North YOrkshire by the way its a beautiful place to live!

Thank you so much Harrogatemum. What a nice welcome!
I'm moving from Nottingham - but we've only been here for a year. I'm originally from mid-Wales and can't wait to be back near the sea and the mountains. I would love to meet up in the new year.

Harrogatemum - and me!!!

Zimum - Whitby is one of my favourite places on the planet - dh's folks hail from scarborough and I have 2 boys so if you fancy a meet up on the beach in the better weather, sure we can arrange it..

Thanks fullmoonfiend! Great name. That would be lovely.
Hurray, I'm going to live somewhere lovely!

It's a beautiful part of Yorkshire - you must go to Robin Hood's bay (teeny quaint fishing village very near to whitby.) And thene there's Sandsend, and Filey (1950s style seaside fun with huge expanse of beach and no amusement arcades!)
Whitby is on the up I hear, and it's great fun when it gets invaded by scary-looking but very friendly goths a couple of times a year for the Gothfests! (Blame Bram Stoker being inspired by Whitby to write Dracula for that)
The nearby moors are fab too, though you might struggle a bit for Big Town Diversions for the 8-year-old....you have to go to Teeside.

Best of luck with the move, and let us know how you're getting on.

Thanks for the info. I'd heard about the friendly goths! Certainly makes Whitby a unique smalltown place. Can't wait - will have to buy lots of eyeliner.

hi zimum, it's FMF here (in disguise) just wondering how your move was going?

Rhian101 · 16/01/2007 17:07

Hi FMF! It's Zimum here - have reverted to my old name.
I have finally got the phone connected and can access the internet for the first time since we moved. The move was chaos, it all happened the Friday before Christmas. We're still living amongst boxes! Have spent a lot of time wandering up the beach to Sandsend, which is lovely. Will have to give Filey a try too.
