Any Mumsnetters in South Woodford, E18 area?

This is not strictly a meet-up but wondering what the South Woodford, E18 area is like as we may be moving that way. I am completely clueless as we are currently in Fulham, SW6 and am struggling with prospect of the following: 1. Much longer commute 2. Our brilliant nanny leaving us as she lives in Wimbledon 3. No knowledge of Schools, nurseries 4. No clue about which area to live in 5. No friends at all that side of town 5. Moving miles away from friends and family, my parents in Richmond 6. Oh, almost forgot, having to find a new house whilst about 1 week post delivery, currently 22 weeks pg. 7. Finally, trying to keep job when MD very pissed off about pregnancy. Needless to say, this is in aid of DH's job, he is a surgeon, applying for a job in Essex and uprooting me for the second time, the first being a traumatising 2 years in Northern Ireland. Also, I earn more than my husband, not that that makes a jot of difference. At this rate, career may have to be sacrificed on the high altar of marriage to the medical profession. Sorry for what might sound like a real whine, but am having really tricky time at the moment and any information would be very gratefully received.

I live in Loughton, see the moving to Loughton thread in the meet up bit. There are a few people on this board who live in South Woodford. I know the main shopping area but not familiar with nurseries or schools. However, South Woodford, Woodford, Buckhurst Hill and Loughton and Wanstead are all great areas. Family orientated and lots to do. Is your husband going to Whipps Cross hospital? Will you be travelling into the city as the Central line comes in handy too but I'm sure you know that. Good luck anyway.

We moved to Loughton 2 weeks ago having looked for places all along the Cenrtal line from South Woodford to Epping. There are lots of nice areas and having moved here with a 10 week old baby we are finding there are good facilities and lots of young families.. and the Epping Forest is on the doorstep. Transport links are great for commuting too. Good luck...!

South Woodford is very nice, and the central line is fast. Walthamstow, nearby, is nice, and also near whips x, if that's where your DH will be. Lots to do this side of town.

Your MD sounds nasty. What a strain.

Good luck.

I always think we have the best of both worlds living this way. Just have to jump on the central line to get into town.

I know Churchfields primary school used to have a very good reputation. Also, lots of private schools.

Used to live in Wapping and was a nightmare having to drive through London to get anywhere. Good to have the M25 close by.

Good luck if you do move this way

Thanks very much everybody, this is helping a lot after a few weeks feeling very sorry for myself. I will bookmark this thread and may well be in touch again if we end up heading your way

Actually, should not complain, scan this morning showed bouncing hefty boy with eveything as it should be. DH mega chuffed as we have 3 year old DD.

Hi,
I'm in South Woodford and have a DD aged 15 months. Would love to meet up with other mums for a coffee and chat sometime.
