ProfYaffle · 31/10/2006 21:48

Hi,

I'm in Diss, only just over the border in Norfolk so I think I qualify! I'm pg too, due 1st March, already have dd1, 2.5yrs. Dh works in Ipswich and I'm over in that direction quite often.

EllieK · 31/10/2006 22:20

hi prof, you are most welcome, Diss doesn't really count as Norfolk, not far enough in! My little one goes to a Nursery that has another branch in Diss. I work at Mendlesham, on the A140 under the annoyingly red-lights-lit-up mast! are you east anglian at heart or moved here recently?

OP posts:
DarkAlleyBongo · 01/11/2006 07:47

i'm in a village. was orginally from essex so not accent here

emned · 01/11/2006 09:49

Morning Ladies! Where did you all spring from all of a sudden!!
In answer to you original question EK we're trying to buy a house in Woolpit. Spoken to the midwife from Mendlesham as temp patient at Bacton but didn't find her very helpful as she was reluctant to try and book scan for me here and says by the time she would need to see me next I'd probably have moved so didn't seem any point in booking an appt. Feel a little in limbo and worried I won't find out all the options until it's too late! Have spoken to a woman from NCT re antenatal classes and waiting for some info. As this is my first I feel a little in the dark about where I can have the baby and how!

ProfYaffle · 01/11/2006 11:28

That mast is a landmark on my journey to Ipswich! DD looks out for it in the car. Are you near that chilli farm/restuarant? dh and I were thinking of going after seeing it on telly.

I am not a local, am originally from the North West so I do have an entertaining accent, just not a local one!

stressedlady · 01/11/2006 18:40

thankfully i don't have a suffolk accent either, my parents are from london originally and lived in dartford until just before they had me, so all the family i grew up with have fairly neutral accents and at 24 I have still managed to keep away from it (apart from the odd word!). My little boy has already started to pick up the suffolk dialect tho!

My work is further on than the new restaurant, on the industrial estate directly under the mast. you can't miss it, there's usually a huge TNT orange and white trailer parked in the yard!

emned, have you tried speaking to the hospital direct? I had problems with my midwife last time and the hospital arranged for me to see someone else. You are entitled to a scan even if you will be changing doctors!!!! the NCT groups round here can be a little cliquey, they cost so it tends to be slightly more exclusive! I went to NHS antenatal classes and loved it, there were 6 of us and i'm still in contact with most of them, i meet up with 2 of them regularly.

Woolpit is a lovely village, just the right mix of amenities and rural life, the bakery there is just fab!

Our default hospital is West Suffolk but while you do have the choice of any hospital, the only other real option is Ipswich. I prefer Bury but there isn't much in it, it's still a hospital!, the partners overnight accomodation (in case of emergencies etc) was far more luxurious! You could ask to go on a tour of both before you decide. We do have a lovely cottage hospital at Eye but they won't let you go there with your first. Midwives in this area are really keen on home births so that's something to think about, what a housewarming party that would be!
Woolpit has a really good health centre, you could try asking to see the midwife there, you never know, they might be more helpful!

Im in Colchester at the moment, but family in Ipswich so spend most weekends there!

Im an Ipswich girl at heart. Moved there when I was 5 and only moved because DH is in the Army.

Jessica is 2.3 and Rebecca is 1 (birthday was last week)

stressedlady · 01/11/2006 20:56

wow, bet army life isn't much fun with 2 young children at home!

ProfYaffle · 02/11/2006 17:11

I waved when i drove past today, SL, did you see??

SoMuchBlownToBitsByGunpowder · 02/11/2006 17:22

I'm in Kesgrave, near Ipswich

emned · 03/11/2006 12:04

Thanks SL for all your local knowledge. Very helpful. I think I'll wait a few weeks to see if this house looks like it will go through and when it looks more likely I'll contact Woolpit health centre. You never know they may be more helpful!!
Going to stick with Peterborough (where we have moved from) for my scan date as it's the 15th and too excited to put it back!!!
Hmmm not sure about the interactive home birth/ house warming party - Could get messy!!!

stressedlady · 03/11/2006 22:42

i'm not sure about the home birth thing either! my mw is super-keen but i like not having to clear up the mess afterwards!
welcome SoMuch x
don't you find it weird knowing that we might pass each other and have no idea, or wave Prof! I find it really odd knowing that at some point on thursday you drove past my office and waved at me!

stressedlady · 04/11/2006 11:20

anyone off to fireworks tonight?
i'm helping organise the Beyton village event, free entry, 6pm start if anyone is interested!

ProfYaffle · 06/11/2006 16:48

It is odd isn't it?

Is anyone feeling brave enough to suggest a meet up plan?

stressedlady · 06/11/2006 18:00

EllieK · 06/11/2006 18:03
