Meet-ups

When meeting up take sensible precautions. Meet in a public place and let others know where you are going.

Any mums in Lower Clapton or nearby?

We are thinking about moving to that area but I don't know if there is a lot to do for families and just wondered if anyone wants to meet up and tell me a bit more about the area or show me around?

There is lots to do for families. Its a SureStart area so they lay on lots of freebie activities. What age are your children ? The SureStart Hackney Downs office number is 020 8985 6643. They will send you a timetable if you're interested.

I moved away several years ago so I'm afraid I can't take you round, but off the top of my head places to remember include the King's Hall leisure centre opposite the police station which has recently been re-done, the swanky new library by the Town Hall, the Empire theatre (of course) and Ocean, which is the big venue opposite the Town Hall that hosts all sorts of stuff.

NotQuiteCockney is a good resource on all things Hackney but is on holiday at the moment.

Sadly, the Ocean is closed down, but is due to re-open soon.

London Fields Lido will be a fab addition to the area (due to open October but don't hold your breath).

There was a thread about stuff to do in London a while back that included a few posts about Hackney. I'll see if I can find it.

There is a reference to a North London meet-up as well if that helps.
