alliebaba · 11/03/2006 16:59

i thought i was the only one on here. don't hide now!

Ladymai · 11/03/2006 17:10

I'm not hiding just cant get on the computer all the time with littlun demanding my attention all the time!

I'm in Newmarket, have a little boy of 15mths. Don't know of anyone who lives in Moulton although if I do know you it'll be from going to one of the playgroups

Joined MN yesterday and think its great!

Mn rules. I lived in Exning for 11 years, then in town for 3 years, now in Moulton and moving backt ot town soon! I have a daughter (dd) who is 13 months and son (ds) who is 5. Have you lived here long?

Ladymai · 11/03/2006 17:33

Been in Newmarket since 1998. Didn't intend to live here so long but married someone in racing so guess I'm now stuck here, espec as he cant drive!

Love being a mum and gave up work to look after dd full time. got on quite well with some girls from post natal but they were all a bit younger than me and newly married and it fizzled out. I always find it so hard to chit chat with people when we've got nothing in common, even with a child as common ground doesnt help.

So why the move back to town? I've been to moulton once to walk the dogs and it looks idyllic, can't imagine why you'd want to leave!

alliebaba · 11/03/2006 17:36

it is beautiful.. we are hopefully buying in laws house and building them an annexe in the garden. Sister in law will be in our care when they're too old so need to be near to them. I've tried quite a few toddler groups, the one in Exning, one at the Methodist church and one at turner hall. You can join our gang. I've got lots of mummy friends with lo's. Who does your husband work for?

Ladymai · 11/03/2006 17:49

Husband works for Mark Tompkins, he's a feed man so its mega early mornings for him!

I've not been to any play groups in town apart from Scallywags at all saints church. The others I go to are Kentford and Stetchworth. They're not bad, I particulary like Stetchworth as its got a structure to it, its not just playtime, they make things and have singalong at the end which brings the group together.

I'm guessing you have your computer downstairs so you can hop on it all the time, unfortunately ours is upstairs so I'm gonna have to stop chatting while he's having his dinner and get back to this after bathtime, sorry.

i'm at work love. i've been to stetchworth one, it's nice. Scallywags IMO is a little rough at times. Lots of smelly nappies that mums can't be bothered to change. It was originally at the Catholic church, and is moving back I think. There is a new one starting there on a friday that will be structured like the Stetchworth one. MIL is verger at All Saints so got the inside gossip! Well, i'll catch up soon. Maybe we could meet there!!!

Ladymai · 11/03/2006 18:36

Other halfs just got in so I can jump on this while he looks after DS!

So what do you do for work then? Is it just w.ends or did you go back to work during the week too?

You're right about the smelly bums, and when they do change them they stink the loos out with overflowing bins!! The only reason I go to scallys is because the childminders recommend it, I became a childminder last year, and alot of mothers go there so its good to get my face about! It was supposed to move back to Catholic church after xmas but they didn't put any cupboards for the toys in!

Well if we do meet up we ought to know each others names, mines Celia. Would be nice to meet you and some other mums, although I'm a bit booked up at the moment so when things have quietened down in a couple of weeks that'd be good. Its funny, I can go for weeks with not much on then it all comes at once. Everyone at my old work said 'wont you be bored at home all day?' yeah right, like I get to sit at home all day!!

OP posts:
alliebaba · 12/03/2006 14:21

Hi Celia! I'm Allie. Let me know when you're free and we'll meet up
Wink

Ladymai · 12/03/2006 14:46

Had a feeling it would be Allie!

Cool, I'll let you know in a few days.

I'm really loving this MN, some of the conversations I've read are hilarious. Sometimes I wonder if its right to butt in but I suppose thats what its about. It feel like some MNusers know each other or have been in touch for ages. I wish I'd known about it before now!

I've only been on here since January. Just get yourself in there girl! I've made some lovely friends. I work near Tescos on the Kings business park as a virtual PA. I do 2 evenings a week and the odd saturday. I just spend most of it on mumsnet though TBH!
Where are you from? And where did you work before you 'retired.'
My friends husband works for Cheveley Park stud, and she lives on there.. you'll like her, she's funny. Got a little girl who will be 1 in April. We went to school together but only met up again recently (I'm nearly 30) My sister also lives in town and has 2 girls aged 4 and 1 so there's tons of people you can meet.

Ladymai · 12/03/2006 21:19

Nearly 30, I'm in my 30's!

I worked for a company called Biocair, in cherry hinton, and practically ran the acccounts department. I would spend all day number crunching which after 5 years was incredibly dull. Although I'm knackered entertaining DS all day at least my mind isn't dead anymore!

Oh don't worry about me getting in there, already done, its sooooo adictive I can't stop checking and looking for other topics to impart my (hopefully useful) knowledge!

For many moons I lived and was brought up in Cottenham, horrible place, folks are still there but I moved down to kent to work with horses for a bit then back up here when the grandparents started getting poorly as the homing instinct kicked in. Then got sick of renting houses and living with tw*ts and moved to Newmarket, the rest is history.

Have you always been a virtual PA? Is kings park in NMKT? what does your other half do?

Chevely park stud's up Duchess drive isn't it? I'm on Stanley road, just round the corner, ish

I can't wait to meet you and the others, you sound like a scream!

alliebaba · 13/03/2006 10:01

morning. i lived on stanley road when we first moved here. The business park is the one next to tescos. moved here about 20 years ago from essex. my husband works in town as a graphic designer. chevely park is dotted all over the place.. she's on sandwich stud. i used to work in cambridge yonks ago but the commute drove me mad. worked at my current place since november, before that i was a virgin vie rep so travelled around, including cottenham! it's a nightmare with all the gypsies there now. that's me in a nutshell!

Ladymai · 13/03/2006 21:25

Been at mums all day and first time able to sit and do this. She's been in South Africa for a month so we've had a bit of catching up to do

Stanley road is alright, some nice people live here, although theres a few too many rented properties now so parking has become a battle field! We used to live on Field Terrace but the smell from the chippy/chinese, although food was lovely, really stank. Now we're right at the back of the Welly so we get the smell of steak and chips!!

I went to a virgin vie party once but it brought my skin out in spots and itched like mad. Party was fun though!

About meeting up, can you do 23rd or 30th March at Snuggles in Stetchworth? They're the only days I've got free for a while as I'm minding on tues and weds and the other days I'm booked up. It would kill 2 birds with one stone then, DS and your DD get to play and we can have a chinwag

OP posts:
alliebaba · 13/03/2006 22:09

Book me in for the 23rd. I'll rally the troops! Me and Em are looking forward to meeting you.. does a lady called Sally Nicholas still go to snuggles?

Ladymai · 13/03/2006 22:34

23rd it is then, looking forward to it.

Not sure about Sally, will have a look on list and let you know. Is she a mate?

Ooh, ooh...my sister lives in Burwell, but lived in Newmarket for years. I know all these placenames - and her DH works for Tesco now! They both started off in the racing yards Smile

alliebaba · 14/03/2006 09:26

yes, she's a friend of my sister.. think she was a comittee type bod there, but her son may be too old now so nout sure.
Paolo! Are you local still

alliebaba · 20/03/2006 14:51

are we still on for thurs 23rd?

Ladymai · 20/03/2006 21:40

Absolutely! I'm looking forward to letting DS go off and play while I take a well earned rest to have a natter. Its only monday and I'm already exhausted!

DS is teething and he's really fed up with it, a molar came through last friday, his gums are red and sore and everything is just getting to him and his tantrums have reached an all time high!! Yippee for me spending all the time consoling and cajouling him into happy mode! Pity thats the first one of many to come through! Havent the heart to tell him theres more!

Its not as if he's not sleeping through still its just the constant emotional drain the kills me! So yes Thursday is definately still on!

Hows your week going so far?

OP posts:
alliebaba · 21/03/2006 22:05

hello love! it's fine ta. ds went on a school trip yesterday and his teacher said he was fab.. been telling me all about victorian toilets and wedding cakes.. lost 2.5lb at Weight watchers, hurrah.. only 1 problem though.. I forgot that I am going to have school dinners at ds's school thursday (mothers day lunch!) so can we re-schedule. sorry to be a pain in the arse. hope lo is feeling better x

Ladymai · 22/03/2006 13:56

No probs, do you want to make it next week instead?

OP posts:
Ladymai · 23/03/2006 12:03

Next week snuggles is at Cheeky monkeys play barn which I'm giving a miss cos DS doesn't really enjoy it. Do you want to meet up at Scallywags instead on Wednesday? I haven't been for a while and I should think it'd be the last one before easter.

DS still feeling poorly with his teeth, got a top one coming through now. He cried for half an hour yesterday eve non stop, full belting it out crying and nothing I did would make him feel better, but when DH got home he was fine, all smiles again, why is that? Absolutely everything is annoying him and he's inconsolable, I just wish they'd all hurry up and come through and then we can be done with it and my cheery little angel can come back! Does it last long?

Let me know if still want to meet up
