Hi

We moved to London two months ago as my husband was transferred here from Sydney. I have two children aged 3 and 5.

It is very hard not knowing anybody and would appreciate it if anybody has any suggestions on keeping myselft busy. Unfortunately the Mums at my daughters school are not a very friendly bunch.

HI JUSSY. I UNDERSTAND THE WAY YOU FEEL. I LIVE IN HAMPSHIRE AND HAVE A 6 YEAR OLD GIRL. SOMETIMES FEEL ISOLATED BUY YOU JUST HAVE TO PERCEVEIRE AND FIND NEW PEOPLE.
MAYBE SOMETIME IN THE NEXT HALF TERM WE CAN GET TOGETEHER.
IF YOU WANT TO TALK, FEEL FREE TO WRITE. SOMETIMES IS DIFFICULT WHEN YOU COME FROM A DIFFERENT PART OF THE WORLD, AND NOW MATTER HOW HARD YOU TRY, YOU HAVE TO FIND FRIENDS.
TAKE CARE

Fennekepans ... having problems with your connection or just very adamant? Grin

Jussy, would love to meet up :) only can do late afternoons or weekends though. Live in Ealing but we go to Kew a lot so Richmond isn't that much further to go :)

Also check our Ealing, Isleworth etc. thread... next tentative date for mum's evening is 11 may :)

Hi Jussy

i dont know in which sense you mean adamant???

here the environment is different and i feel like meeting real people, value for what they are and not have.
I believe that you make your own life and be will p

FENNEKEPANS · 13/04/2006 23:41

Hello! I have just moved to the East Sheen/Barnes area and have a five month old boy. I'd love to meet other mums for walks and coffees and find out about local mum and baby groups. look forward to hearing from local mums! x

stepfordwife · 27/02/2008 17:23

hi jussy
hope you're feeling a bit more settled now.
bet you miss sydney - what a fab city. (my in-laws are in perth, btw)
i've got a 3-year-old daughter (and ds1, 8, and ds2,6) and one of my regular haunts is mortlake green playground.
would be fab to meet up with you - and anyone else sometime if you fancy.
also there's a very friendly richmond group in the locals

riles · 15/05/2008 21:04

Hi i'm a working mum with two girls but an aussie lost in London. Been here this time for 8 years and hankering for home. But we couldn't live in a lovelier part of London. I'm in Whitton (near twickenham rugby ground).
I miss the aussie spirit and having a good few wines with mates at times and nattering about ... well just stuff!
If ever you want to meet for a wine and a whine let me know.
jk

CilC · 25/05/2008 18:30

Hi helan03 and riles

Just came across this thread. I am also an aussie living here. I am in east molesey which is next to bushy park and hampton court palace. I am 8 months pregnant and have a DD3. Have also just become a SAHM which is a bit lonely and would love to catch up as I am quite close to both of you. Can't do wine (sadly can not stomach it at the moment) but can definitely whine!

Let me know if you would like to catch up. There are some great places in Twickenham/Teddington etc.

MintPattie · 26/05/2008 20:05

Hey gals

I'm another Aussie who could do with a good old natter over a cheeky wine - living in Wandsworth Common but happy to brave the wilds of Twickenham for an antipodean catch up....

CilC · 26/05/2008 22:32

Hi MintPattie - love the name! [grin}
How long have you been in London?
Sounds like there could be a small group of us missing cherryripes, minties and burger rings!
Anyone else interested in catching up let us know and we can try and organise something...

poppy34 · 26/05/2008 22:37

ciic - not aussie but live in twickenham and expecting my first . have you tried the NCT or the local catch up areas for other mums to be (I am fairly sure that there was something in it about aussie mums linking up)

and incidentally there is an (expensive) shop in covent garden that sells cherry ripes, minties etc if you really are craving them.

CilC · 26/05/2008 23:27

Thanks poppy - know of the shop - cheaper to get them sent over! {smile}

MintPattie · 27/05/2008 19:38

Cilc - almost 2 yrs - in fact I have a date in Sheffield!!! with an immigration officer in a couple of weeks to hand over a great wad of sterling and convince him/her to grant ILR.

We have a steady stream of cherry ripes coming our way via MIL but I could do with a packet of twisties (forget the burger rings)

helan03 · 28/05/2008 12:43

Hi cilc and other aussie mums ,hi all.
looks like there are alot of us so how do we contact each other now?Id love to meet up and the kids will have fun, twickenham ,richmond is great also near me is a toddler group open from 1pm til 4pm.

dont know what to do

CilC · 28/05/2008 18:50

Sorry Helen - must do that now!
Good luck Mintpattie with immigration!

CilC · 28/05/2008 22:15

I order on line through www.truebluetucker.co.uk - free delivery in London and way cheaper than the Australia shop in Covent Garden. They'll even order anything you want from back home. Love it!

I'm based in Crystal Palace but if there's an Aussie coffee morning with timtams, I'm willing to travel......

kmp1 · 26/06/2008 18:17

Hi - I'm new to this site, and soon to be new 1st time mum (Dec) and Aust too. Would love to meet Aussie Mum's in the SW London area? Would love to meet up for coffee / tim tams (and wine after baby arrives!)

PortAndLemon · 26/06/2008 18:43

There's an active Mumsnet Local group for Southwest/West London -- thread here (it's under Richmond because Mumsnet Local forces you to choose a borough, but there are people from all over the area). There are regular meet-ups (there's one tonight, actually) although I'm not sure whether there are any Australians left now Quokka's moved to Singapore.

quarterj · 08/08/2008 12:34

The Aussie shops always seemed to run out of Twisties.

Lived in Australia and developed an unatural desire for the twisty snack.

Someone suggested I try this snack which was almost exactly the same as Twisties called Tastees.

Am unfortunatly am now scoffing world record amounts of Tastees.
