Do you think I've got a chance?

I've just got the results back from my level 4, 60 credit module from the open uni. (Equivalent of 50% of the first year of uni) I got a distinction.

I'd like to apply for a primary education degree. I'm already a TA and I passed all my GCSE's C and above but I didn't finish my Alevels due to a chaotic home life.

If I apply through clearing, do you think I've got any chance of getting a place this year? I'm currently 75% through my other level 4, 60 credit module but due to a staggered start date, I won't get the results back in time for the deadline of a September start which would mean waiting a whole year.

could you contact the university you are applying for and ask the admissions tutor for advice?

I've emailed but I thought I'd ask on here too because I'm impatient haha! Hopefully someone else has had a similar experience.

I know they will definitely consider a full level 4 qualification instead of Alevels but I'm hoping gaining a distinction in half, will be enough evidence to show I can work at this level. If that makes sense!

I was in a slightly similar position. Great GCSEs but no A-levels, so was resigned to having to do an access course. I did manage a certificate in Law from the OU many years later.

DH was fed up of me ruminating on it and told me to just apply. So I applied through UCAS ffor a social work course and think I got in based on interview, NHS experience and a lovely reference from my boss. Had offers from the two local universities I was interested in.

Having said that, I would suggest that the mature students who did the access course have had an easier time of it though. I think it taught them study skills that I’m seriously lacking.

Congratulations! A distinction is hard to come by at the OU. When will you get the results of your other module/s? It would definitely be worth contacting the admissions tutor at the brick uni and explaining the situation. You may well find that competition to get on the course is not as fierce as you might imagine, and they’d be happy to take you on condition of completing your other level 4 module, even if you don’t get the result from that until after the new course starts.

You definitely have a chance. If the university has spaces on the course you want then they will want to fill them.

Look into the foundation degree route if they won’t admit you based on the qualification you have.

Thank you for replying. I have been looking at the foundation degree but I'd rather not have to study for an extra year if I can help it. I really hope they accept what I've got 🤞
