Anyone gone to cooking school/retrained for the food industry?

I've signed up to do a 4-week culinary certificate course at Ashburton cooking school. I'm so excited but also nervous. I know I want to be an epic home cook and I know I definitely don't want to work in restaurants. But I'm exploring the idea of moving into the professional food industry in some capacity. Part of the point of doing this course is to see if I can develop enough skill and speed to consider cooking as a career. Anyone have any experience of this?

I can’t speak for cooking but I did work in the professional food manufacturing industry for just over 20 years.
If that’s route that you would be interested in then you should be looking towards higher level food safety courses, HACCP level 3 and upwards, TACCP and VACCP courses are also worth considering. There are also very specialised food courses offered by Campden BRI, but they are quite expensive. It can be quite a well paid career and people with culinary skills can get a job on the product development side of the food industry. Not exactly what you were interested in but something to consider.

Oh that's really interesting, thanks so much! I'll look into it

This sounds like so much fun. Planning to do this in July.

Hey OP are you still around? I actually studied at Ashburton ten years ago or so. I loved it. After my course, I worked in an area related to the food industry which I loved but it’s physically very hard work for little pay. I don’t regret my time though. And I am a bloody good home cook!
when does your course start?
