I'm not a teacher and didn't do the programme but I did used to work there.

Truthfully the programme is tough. It's full on with the expectation of being the class teacher from day one. In primary it's particularly hard as in-school mentor support can be challenging for schools to find time for. There's also an academic qualification alongside your every day teaching work which is hard.

But the academic side has been slightly rolled back from a 2 year pgde to a one year qualification now which helps. Plus it's obviously a paid route into teaching which is good if you need the cash.

It's really tough as a parent but if you have good support in place it's certainly doable.
