To retrain in social work?

I'm thinking of retraining in social work. I've read horror stories but also see that people love their jobs and feel like they're making a difference. Is the job doable with primary school age children and a supportive husband?
Any advice appreciated.

Hello! I did a masters in social work 10 years ago with a 5 year old and a supportive OH. It was tough going, especially being on placement, the days were long and so was my commute. But it was manageable. The paperwork is endless but the course was really good. There are many different areas you can go into.
