I’ve just signed up for this degree in my 40s. Anyone else have any experience of it? I’m a little worried about any maths involved!
Not sure if it will be a waste of time but I hate my job and need to find a new career path.

I'm doing Geography and Environmental Science with OU.
There are many resources for maths skills along the module for this reason.
Thr hardest thing is getting started! You can do it.

Thebaguette · 05/09/2024 00:10

I am quitting after a year of doing it. There is not so much maths.
But as I am not from a sustainability or environmental background in my work experience, I found it not very useful from career point of view. It is interesting and there are a lot of interesting stuff to learn and but nothing to help with finding a job. There were a lot of students coming from similar backgrounds, e.g. health and safety, non profit etc.

What kind of work are you looking for and what is your current job?

Annannanna · 05/09/2024 10:13

Eek that's not good to hear.
I am working for a solicitors firm so looking for a change of career. I am hoping to do some volunteering in the meantime to try to get some experience and see what jobs come up once I finish.
Did you apply for many jobs?

I think it depends what you make it of it.

I literally found a job using the OU careers service (not related but I'm working on it). They are excellent as are the student support service.
I would contact them, tell them your concerns and take it from there.
Volunteering is an excellent way to get experience as well.
There are also virtual internships to try too.

That’s great thank you, I’ll check out OU careers. The virtual internships sound good, I will give them a try.
