Starting Udemy course - JavaScript

Hi all!

After thinking and overthinking I've decided to take the leap and signed up for the JavaScript course.

I am a complete beginner so this might not go well for me Blush I spent an age reading the reviews, and singed up for the one that stood out the most- it is over 60 hours but I can imagine it will take me a long while to get through.

Wondering if there are any other fellow 'newbies' who would like to keep a chat going (mainly to motivate each other- and give me a kick up the bum when things will get tough and I'll want to give up Grin)

Hi @CouldNotStayAway is it called The Complete JavaScript Course 2024: From Zero to Expert! ?

I'm leaving my job later this year and wondered if I should try something new. Is this one something you work through on your own? And is there a real live person available if you get stuck?

CouldNotStayAway · 29/04/2024 18:04

Yes that's the one!

I've signed up today, the positive reviews made me think it should be good (and worth it).

I believe you watch the videos, and work through the problems with the tutor (pre recorded course). There is an option to ask questions from my understanding. I've just checked the intro video, just the basics of how to work through it, and some resources to download.

It seems like it covers the basic groundwork, and I'm hoping once completed I'll be a little more competent in JavaScript (might then move onto python).

Hope that helps, I will try an update when I've completed a few sessions 😊

Thank you, I'd like to hear how you're getting on please. Very good luck!

Do have a look at Code First Girls - I started off with one of their MOOCs and I'm now doing an 8 week Kickstarter course with them. Really great way to get into tech and the courses are free 🤩

CouldNotStayAway · 29/04/2024 22:17

@Turkeyhen that sounds brilliant; will take a look at that too, thank you ☺️

@HarpQuartet hopefully will start tomorrow evening, and see how I get on, I don't have a lot of time during the week, but aiming to set aside at least an hour during the weekdays and longer for weekends (hopefully).

12 year old DS is very pleased to hear this, but he's very much into coding (loves making games)- let's hope I can get my head around it all 😂

Op, how is it going?

CouldNotStayAway · 21/05/2024 23:40

@Redpaisely I've only managed about 10% of the course so far; unfortunately I haven't managed to do much for a while now. However, so far, I am really happy with the content. I am an absolute novice, so I do take longer working through each video, but I do feel it is worth it. I didn't purchase the course at full price though, so with the sale price it feels like it was a good choice.
Going to get back into it after half term hopefully.
