Retraining

Hello!

I've been working for the same company for ten years. The main reason I've been there so long is better the devil you know / lack of confidence / Stockholm Syndrome. I'm desperate to retrain - I'm in a comms role currently but am eager to do something more directly linked to supporting people to feel better, and something I can really choose my own hours in such as counselling, massage, nutrition, coaching...but I have no idea how to retrain - financially, I earn about 1k a month which is tough to live on (I survive ok but live paycheck to paycheck - I have no savings) and retraining is so expensive. My current job does not believe in development for its staff so I can't access anything in that way.

How does anyone retrain when they don't earn well? I can't find any courses that are free or even vaguely affordable. Alas I think I don't think I can get a career development loan as I did a stupid creative MA when I was younger which was fun but pretty pointless now looking back and I believe this discounts me from getting a career dev loan as I already have a Masters.
Any signposting gratefully received - towards any funding opps / cheaper courses or even any affordable career coaching or anything similar to help me out of this rut.

Have you checked out the retraining board for ideas?

Came here to say the same - have a look through the threads on the Mature Study and Retraining board, or ask MNHQ to move your thread there - loads of different experiences to draw on.

It’s a shame you won’t qualify for a Government Postgraduate Loan. I have no idea if eligibility for apprenticeships is limited by past qualifications. (Or even if there is an apprenticeship that might suit you.)

But there may be something you haven’t thought of.
