Defer year while pregnant or not

Hi I am expecting a baby in January 24. I was due to start university this September as a mature student. I did ask the university if I can attend lectures until December and then do remote learning and come in for exams after baby is born but they are insisting on me deferring the entry to September 24.
does anyone know if they can make me do this or if it’s my choice

It's your choice but do they off remote learning? Not all courses are offered online. Depending on the course, it does sound like you can get a term done but who have you spoken to? I'd there a student support unit who can advocate for you?

I imagine you can defer but they would make you resist the September term too, as content hat have changed in a years time.

So it's either defer now.

Or do the year and attempt the exams in summer. See if you pass or not. Depends how much is online and what things are due around birth time and support you will get at home.

I'm a mature student going into second year and expecting a baby at the beginning of March 2024 :) I'm planning on trying to complete the second year as normal, but if I was due closer to the January exams I think I would defer to reduce the risk of messing up my grades

I'm not sure if the uni can stop you starting this year, but from experience our first year was very full-on and I couldn't imagine doing the January exams whilst close to giving birth as they were already exhausting. That being said, I think if you're determined enough then you can achieve almost anything :) in the long run though you might benefit more from working this year and then starting next year so you have the chance to achieve your full potential when you do start uni

I would defer until baby is a bit older, I tried doing a course over having my last baby and it was a nightmare and I eventually quit
