Nurse becomes midwife?

I have a degree in adult nursing and have been doing this for 10 years. I am keen to become a midwife, I am aware you can complete an 18 month course at some university's. Has anybody done this before? I am from Cumbria, does anybody know where offers this course nearby? North east/north west? I'm local university only offers the full 3 year degree.

Thanks

Surely you don’t need to do another degree? Is there not a masters which would take two years

No I wouldn't need to do another full degree. Some places offer a top-up for nurses who want to dual train, these take 18 months. So far the only university's I can find that offer this course are down south. I'm hoping theses somewhere up North as close to Cumbria as possible.

Is there really no centralised Careers Service for the nursing profession? I’m surprised you can’t get the necessary information from your own professional institution.

Edge Hill offer the 18 month course for registered nurses, that’s probably closest.

The NMC site allows you to search for approved courses by type
