Where would an AAT course enable me to work?

I am looking at studying part time doing an AAT course with a view to then going into accounting or bookkeeping and the end goal is to be able to work from home.

Is this achievable? Or is it better to try and get my foot in the door in a company and work my way up or will an AAT course be recognised? I currently work in childcare (single mum so works for us) so have no office experience as such but have worked in a school office for a few months doing accounting (stupidly left when ex got a new job and child wouldn't settle in daycare)

An AAT course will be recognised but it might be worth applying for trainee positions as that way your new employer will cover the costs of the course.

Look for Finance Officer / Accounts Admin type roles. Then you can have some real world experience while training. Plus, as above, they'll probably then fund the training.

Hi
Someone I know has recently set up as a self-employed bookkeeper and she started studying AAT but then she changed to ICB as their courses are apparently more suitable if you want to be self-employed?
She trained with this college:

via distance learning and was very positive about them. Maybe worth giving them a call? From what she said, AAT is better is you want to be an employee not set up on your own. She said that this college does both AAT and ICB though. I only know because my sister asked me to get the qualification and college information for her.
Hope this helps
