Hi, I'm hoping for some advice and guidance if possible. I am planning on applying for a HE diploma with a local college, with a start date Sept of this year. I left school and got my GCSEs in 2013, and don't have my original certificates. As well as this, I don't actually remember the exam boards I took each subject with!! I'm assuming I can get my results with the exam boards but is the first port of call contacting the school? If anyone has any experience with this and can give me any advice on the best way, and how long the process takes would be appreciated

How would you propose to contact exam boards if you don’t remember them - other than by asking your school??

I don’t know how long they keep such records, but it’s only 10 years ago so I’d be surprised if they didn’t have access to the information you need.

Might the college also would want a reference from your school, unless you have subsequent qualifications from somewhere else?

I'm in scotland where our exam board is sqa. I contacted them for the same reason and was told their site had a function where I could create a portal where I could access all of my qualifications on record through them. I don't know about England but I'd expect them to have something similar.
I hope you got it sorted.

Any progress, @tobi21?

Not just being nosy - it’s a relevant issue for countless prospective mature students!

Hi @MetaDaughter
So I have my interview for my course on Tuesday, (it had been delayed due to staff sickness)
I did ring the college group beforehand to explain the situation, and they advised I go to it without the hard copy results and they will go from there. Apparently the importance of having the certificates vary depending on which course you are enrolling on. I did however get in contact with my high school who were extremely helpful and sent over my full results via email. I'm not sure if that will be enough but sadly cannot afford the £150(ish) to get all my certificates from the exam board, so it's a case of cross that bridge when we come to it

Definitely progress! Well done.

I daresay the college might be satisfied if the school emails your results directly to them? (Who knows?) If not, I guarantee that somewhere in the world there’s a grant or bursary available for exactly this purpose.

Good luck with your interview.

@MetaDaughter Thank you! I'm hoping it goes smoothly and I can get back into education Star
