Is it tricky? Mentally very demanding?

I'm 53 and I need to find a job that has prospects and progression.

I've got a marketing masters but not worked for seven years as been a SAHM.

I've been looking at this site and it's very helpful but I would really appreciate some insights from anyone who works in finance.

I think if you've managed to get a Masters you'll be able to do it. I studied arts at uni but then went straight into chartered accountancy. It took a little while to get back into the maths mindset but I didn't find it too difficult once I got going. A big benefit was that I was working at the same time so putting some of what I was learning into practice.

AAT is a useful qualification to anyone new to accounts and leads straight onto ACCA or CIMA if you wanted to go into chartered accountancy. It is often taught at colleges at evening school which is good. It would be better if you are working as an accounts assistant at the same time for you to be able to link your learning into your role.
