I’ve been out of the workplace for almost 10 years now and although I was quite confident in using Word and Excel and all that I now feel a bit lost and want to get to grips with it all again - with the aim of hopefully looking more attractive to employers when job hunting. Can anyone recommend any online course providers - when I Google so many come up and I’ve no idea which are legit and would be looked upon favourably by potential employers.

I’ve no idea really what sort of job I really want - probably need to upskill in lots of areas to be honest not just computers!

There's a fair amount on the Microsoft website which are free. Worth a look.

My first thought was that it would be pointless to spend time, energy and money on any course unless and until you know what you need it for.

After ten years you need a period of expert, professional consultation to reassess your strengths and weaknesses and work out where you might fit in the job market. Only then would you be able to identify exactly what sort of training / upskilling you need to get you there.

I know there are organisations that focus on helping women returners - you can google to find them. Alternatively or in addition you really should seek out some adult career counselling. This step will probably take time and money and possibly some painful self-discovery - but at least by the end of it you won’t be floundering, and you’ll know how to move forward.
