Mature study and retraining
I failed an assignment 😞
Usernamqwerty · 13/08/2022 16:34
Postgraduate healthcare student in my first year, with two young children, a disability, a carer role and not in great health myself...
Found out yesterday I had failed a written assignment by 6 marks. Absolutely gutted and too embarrassed to tell anyone except my husband. Feel like a massive failure and if I fail again, I will get kicked off the course. Awaiting confirmation I just have to amend the original submission and not write a whole new one from scratch (critical review of a research paper). I should hear on Monday... Handhold please!!

Don’t be too hard on yourself. Sounds like you have a lot on, just keep on trying.

Oh, I’m sorry. It’s getting when you fail or do badly at something. I have an assigned person at my uni I can contact, they get in touch with me termly. Can you maybe reach out and try to get a bit of advice or help, explain that you’ve had your own issues going on.

Handhold. Been there! Sounds like you've lots on which doesn't make it any easier, but don't be hard on yourself and hope re submitting is as smooth as possible.

Good luck :) don’t give up! It’s only the first assignment

I failed a critical review on my degree too! I passed everything else, but with the critical review I had no idea really it was very different to an essay 🤷♀️ Don’t worry about it, keep going! I sometimes felt like my course was more an endurance test, than a learning experience 🤨

Thank you for your support! I have redone it and resubmitted and hope I pass or I will have to leave the course 😞

Thanks. It's my third one. I passed the first two. Hopefully I pass the retake 🤞

@Usernamqwerty did you pass?
I failed one assignment on my degree and one (so far) on my current masters.
Talk to your tutor and take up any help offered by the uni. Don’t feel ashamed.

Thank you for asking! No I didn't unfortunately but managed to appeal on Extenuating Circumstances and they are allowing me to repeat the module. It starts in February, so am volunteering in the meantime 🙂.
How are you doing?
Best wishes
Edmontine · 02/10/2022 17:36
Well that’s a much better outcome (so far) than the one you were fearing in August.
Hope you can clear some space in the meantime so you can prioritise getting the module done next year.

Yes that's true. Thank you. I am enrolled to start in February and am doing relevant courses and volunteering in the meantime 🙂.

I wondered this too! Glad you've got things in place that will hopefully let you get it all completed next time around, and may end up having been a wonderful opportunity getting a gap for volunteering etc before you graduate. All the best!
