Nurse wanting to retrain as a podiatrist-funding?

I want to retrain as a podiatrist. Does anybody know if you can still get the course fees paid for? Or if you can still get a student loan? I've researched and the guidance is so vague. I don't have a degree, I have a diploma with some degree level credits.

Hi,

If you don't have a degree I think you can get the funding. I got funding for my podiatry degree. - was my second degree so I expect you will be fine.(And podiatry is also a shortage profession so you should get an extra £1000 on your first year bursary) I assume they still do that. I missed that though.

Plus we got the loans for fees etc.

It is a great profession- I start my first job in September. 🙂

Also look out for apprenticeships there are quite a few popping up now.

Any specific questions feel free to send me a direct message

Hi,
That's great, thank you, sounds very promising. Just trying to figure out if I'll be able to afford to live if I do it. Yes I was looking into apprenticeships aswell, the uni I'm looking at your only in 3 days a week so I'm thinking I could work the other 2 days.
Congratulations and good luck in your new job, how exciting 😀
Thanks for replying, I'm going to go for it x

Good luck
My degree was three days in. Do t under estimate the assignments etc. And we had blocks of placement, some uni's have their own clinic.

Quite a few people managed to work around the degree. I did for a bit- however that job pretty much ended due to the pandemic

Some podiatry clinics will also employ students as reception staff or as fhp type roles after year one.
